FIFA 22 Ultimate Team: Why Aubameyang SBC is one of the worst we've seen

FIFA 22 Ultimate Team brings us constant new content, with one of the most exciting being player Squad Building Challenges.

There was a lot of hype around Player Moments Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang coming into the game, a new upgraded version from his base card celebrating a time when he was regarded as one of the best strikers around.

The hype soon turned into sourness, with the FUT community extremely unhappy with how EA had turned this win into a loss.

Popularity contest

We have taken a look at the least popular FUT players before, and surprisingly it was Cristiano Ronaldo who came out on top.

However, when you consider it was his Player of the Month SBC version of the card that claimed the crown, it became obvious why it was universally hated.

Coming to FUT very early in the season, it took 26 teams to complete (that's 286 players) and cost nearly 3 million coins.

There's a new king in town now, with Aubameyang shooting to the top of the list of least popular FUT players - and by quite a way!

Priced out

As with the Ronaldo POTM SBC, the main offence EA committed when creating the Aubameyang Player Moments SBC was the cost.

It was only four squads to submit, but they had to have team ratings of 83, 86, 87 and 88.

When you add that up you're looking at around 475,000 coins to complete.

That was out of a lot of players' price range and would involve people getting rid of many top cards from their club.

It also costs more than the Mid Icon Upgrade SBC, or even just buying an Icon off of the transfer market!

The price is the main factor for the hate, but with that, you also have to look into other factors.

If it was this price for a French player of similar quality, it may not be so horrendous, as you can create many strong links throughout different leagues in the world.

However, being from Gabon, you are unlikely to find another top player to link with, as there are only 11 other players to choose from, the highest-rated being a 76 OVR.

This means you are stuck with using Premier League links around him, not the worst thing, however, it does reduce your squad building options.

Player review

Even with weak links, some players are just so good that it doesn't bother you, and you just need to fit them into your side.

For 475k, does Aubameyang fit into this category?

Simply, no.

Don't get us wrong, it is a very good card, but there are similar players around who can do just as good a job, if not better.

Romain Alessandrini's Winter Wildcards version is a prime example of this, and he is over five times cheaper, with a French nationality.

Despite being rated 86 OVR compared to Aubameyang's 89 OVR, they both have the actual stats of an 88-rated card.

With the right chemistry style on them, they can both gain the attributes of a 93-rated card.

When you look at it, not only is Aubameyang's card overpriced, it is also overrated.
