We saw some awesome new Icons on FIFA 21 with the likes of Fernando Torres and Xavi brought back to the game, but who could we see added this year?

We look at which legends could be the next additions in FIFA Ultimate Team.

Latest - Seven Icons 'leaked'

Seven legends of football have been 'leaked' ahead of FIFA 22.

It is rumoured that these players will be returning to the game as Icon players in Ultimate Team.

We would love this to be true as the seven players named are deserving of a place among the Icon elite.

Release Date

FIFA 22 won't be released until the latter half of 2021 so there is no official release date just yet.

However, the game will likely be released between Friday, 24 September and Friday, 8 October, 2021, judging by the release in previous years.

We should find out any new Icons before that, however, with a release of them likely to come around the start of September.

Predictions

We are hoping for some exciting new legends to return to the game next season, so here is who we think could join the growing list of ICONs on FIFA Ultimate Team.

Wayne Rooney (OVR 90 - 92 - 88)

Is it time for Wayne Rooney to become an ICON?

England’s record goalscorer has now officially retired, paving the way for Wazza to join the ICON ranks.

Ricardo Carvalho (OVR 87 - 90 - 88)

Portuguese defender Ricardo Carvalho was a key part of both Chelsea and Real Madrid’s success during his career.

Having won the league title in England, Spain and Portugal, Carvalho is one of the best defenders of his generation.

Adriano (OVR 86 - 90 - 85)

Do we need another unstoppable Brazilian striker? No. Do we want one? Absolutely.

Former Inter powerhouse Adriano was almost unstoppable in his heyday, and a set of ICONs could prove very popular.

Yaya Toure (OVR 87 - 89 - 91)

Not yet officially retired, Yaya Toure has recently spoken of his desire to continue playing.

However, if that does not come to fruition, we would love to see the Ivorian become a FUT ICON. If not Yaya, we wouldn’t mind Kolo either!

Andres Iniesta (OVR 88 - 93 - 86)

Another player not yet retired; Andres Iniesta will almost certainly become a FUT ICON at some stage.

We can’t wait to be able to re-unite prime Iniesta and Xavi in midfield!

Kompany return?

We would love to see former Belgium and Manchester City city centre back Vincent Kompany return on FIFA 22.

Kompany was a dominant centre back and would definitely be a popular addition to the game.

PES could be pinching licences

Konami's General Manager spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about how successful the game is in Italy.

With that in mind, two further clubs (PES already has Juventus, Roma and Lazio as partner clubs) from Italy are set to sign on with PES for its esports series.

That is likely to hinder the possibility of any legends of those clubs arriving as Icons, with Gabriel Batistuta and Francesco Totti likely to be ruled out at this point.
