We're still waiting for official confirmation, but a full team leak for Team of the Year has already happened.

The big omission is Mohamed Salah, who will surely pick up the 12th Player spot if the leak proves true.

At the back, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias were expected, and we were pretty sure Marquinhos would make it in too.

The inclusion of Achraf Hakimi goes against some of the polls we were seeing, with both Antonio Rudiger and Trent Alexander-Arnold garnering more votes, however, these could easily have been wrong.

What this does mean is that you will have very strong links in your backline, with just Manchester City and PSG involved.

Nominees Revealed

Nine Premier League players are included in the 25 total nominees for the TOTY defenders.

There are few surprises across all categories but either way, these will be the most in-demand cards that FIFA 22 has seen to date.

Deadly Defenders

Last year 18 defenders made the 70-man shortlist, which was then cut down to just four.

Liverpool secured two spots, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk making the cut after their superb year.

They were joined by Real Madrid stalwart Sergio Ramos and Bayern Munich Roadrunner Alphonso Davies.

That is a tough year to beat, especially the centre-backs.

This year we could see more attacking threat from the full-backs, and Manchester City will surely have claimed two spots for themselves.

CANCELO CULTURE - Joao Cancelo is unstoppable for City

Joao Cancelo has been phenomenal for Manchester City, transforming how we view a full-back can play.

Often you could mistake him for a CAM, as he drifts infield and becomes a playmaker.

Surprisingly, his numbers aren't off the scale, but the chances he creates are outstanding.

We think he'll likely take the left-back position in the back four, a role he has played for City regularly.

POWERHOUSE - Dias loves to defend

Just as Virgil van Dijk fixed Liverpool's defence, Ruben Dias has done the same for Manchester City, helping them win the Premier League title and get to the Champions League final.

A powerhouse at the back, Dias is no-nonsense but also calm and composed on the ball to play out from the back the way Pep wants.

Once one of City's biggest weaknesses, their defence is now formidable, conceding the fewest chances in the league and gaining many clean sheets.

Marquinhos

LUCKY INCLUSION - Marquinhos is a favourite but others could feel hard done by

A FUT favourite, Marquinhos looks likely to pick up the other centre-back position, although there are probably more deserving players.

Captaining PSG he is a rock at the back for them and is skilled enough on the ball to play as a CDM when needed.

Despite not winning the league title, PSG did get to the semi-finals of the Champions League, and he was also key to the Brazil squad that lost in the final of the Copa America.

A special mention should go to Antonio Rudiger who could also be up for this spot.

Achraf Hakimi

SPEED MERCHANT - Hakimi would be a very popular choice thanks to his pace

There is a battle on for the right-back position in the side, with arguments to be made for both contenders.

Achraf Hakimi was crucial for how Inter played to claim the Serie A title, individually picking up seven goals and 11 assists in the season.

He started this season with a bang after moving to PSG, picking up three goals and three assists in the opening seven games, but things have dried up for him since then.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

WORLD-CLASS - Despite not being a first choice for England, there is no doubting Trent's ability

Another man who is instrumental in how his team plays is Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool went through a rough patch last season but turned things around towards the end of the campaign, which coincided with TAA's restored form.

He has been on fire this season, already with two goals and 12 assists, which could put him in the forefront of voters' minds to claim the right-back spot.
