NBA 2K22 is still months away, but that can't stop the anticipation from building about the game's return to PS5.
Last year we saw NBA 2K21 break the next gen barrier for this series, and here's everything we know so far about how NBA 2K22 will do that on PS5.
NBA 2K22 Reveal Trailer
We don't have an official reveal trailer for NBA 2K22 just yet, but we can look back at last year to know when one might arrive.
The announcement trailer above for NBA 2K21 showing PS5 alpha footage was released on June 11, 2020, and a similar date this year for the initial announcement and reveal of NBA 2K22 seems likely.
That would put the timing right on track for E3 2021, and that event may be when we start to learn more about NBA 2K22 on PS5.
Release Date on PS5
There's no official release date for NBA 2K22 on PS5 just yet, but last year we saw next gen releases delayed significantly compared to the regular NBA 2K21 release date.
That's unlikely to happen this year, as the full development cycle on next gen should allow a simultaneous release on all platforms, including PS5.
Based on previous years, the most likely NBA 2K22 Release Date is either September 3, 2021 or September 10, 2021.
Price on PS5
While the PS5 brings next gen gameplay and graphics, it also brings a higher pricetag along with it, and that should ring true for NBA 2K22.
NBA 2K21 was part of setting the standard for major sports games being $59.99 on current gen but leaping to $69.99 on next gen.
Unfortunately, that's likely to continue with the NBA 2K22 price, and fans can expect to pay a little more if they're hoping to score a deluxe or special edition of the game.
NBA 2K22 Pre Order
NBA 2K22 is not yet available to pre order, and it will probably be at least a few months before that changes.
NBA 2K21 pre orders went live on July 2, only after the cover athletes had been revealed for the game.
With a likely initial announcement at E3 and more to come later that month, we can likely expect NBA 2K22 to become available for pre order in early July.
Next Gen Game Modes
While NBA 2K22 on PS5 will come with a higher price, one of the advantages to the next gen title will be next gen exclusive game modes.
The big one being The City, which debuted last year and has been praised as one of the best single player modes in sports gaming today.
The City could look to go even bigger this year, and we may see more next gen specific upgrades to further incentivize fans to make the leap away from current gen.
