Madden 23 Playbooks update adds new formations for 12 teams

Madden 23 playbooks had some established favorites as the year got rolling, but the arrival of Title Update 4 brought some unexpected changes.

We've got details on all the Madden 23 playbooks that changed in Update 1.07 and exactly which formations have been added.

Most of the anticipation for Madden 23 updates has focused on much-needed bug fixes in Franchise Mode or elsewhere, but a surprising mid-season change just arrived.

While the adjustment of NFL Live Playbooks was known to be on the table, exactly when those updates might arrive and how notable they would be has been up in the air until now.

With the deployment of Madden 23 Update 1.07, there are now new formations for 12 different offensive playbooks.

First, let's take a look at which new formations are coming to each team:

• Bears add I Form Close Flex
• Broncos add I Form Pro and Slot Close
• Buccaneers add Strong Slot
• Chargers add I Form Slot Close
• Falcons add Pistol Strong, Wing, Wing Slot, Tight Slots, Y-Off Trips, and Full House
• Giants add Wildcats
• Rams add I Form Close
• Saints add I Form Slot, Pistol Y-Trips, and Gun Heavy Saint
• Seahawks add Pistol Full House
• Steelers add I Form Close Flex
• Texans add Singleback Wing Tight Z, Doubles Off Close, Y-Trips, I Form Pro, I Form Slot, and Strong Z Close
• Vikings add I Form Close and Slot Close

Together that's a total of 26 formation changes, a few teams seeing more than others, and there's no doubt this could impact competitive play.

Falcons, Saints, and Texans could join Best Madden 23 Playbooks

It's difficult to definitively say out of the gate how much impact these changes will have, as it will take time for top players to figure out whether these changes offer new meta plays to utilize.

At a glance, the most likely changes to have a major impact are to the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, and Houston Texans.

These saw the most formation changes, and some of those aren't far off from previously identified top formations.

Trips TE, Gun Bunch, Bunch TE, and Gun Y Off Trips were all early favorites among the Madden 23 playbooks when the game first arrived.

With a Y Trips or Y Off Trips addition to each of those three playbooks, as well as other adjustments, they've got the most potential to become a new powerhouse.

It's also worth noting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playbook was an early offensive favorite usually near the top five among players, and the small addition of Strong Slot could give it a hair more versatility.

The changes come fresh off the MCS Ultimate Thanksgiving tournament, so we may see overall strategy change in the buildup to the next big MCS event.
