WWE 2K22 MyGM: New update on the way, all key GM Mode features

WWE 2K22 MyGM has taken the classic GM Mode and revived it for a new generation, but things work a bit differently now than they did in the past.

We've got all the details you need on the various features and challenges that will be found as you hit WWE 2K22 MyGM to build a brand for the ages.

Latest - Expanded match card in MyGM

WWE 2K22 Update 1.09 arrived on April 19, 2022, and it brought two big changes for MyGM, one being an expansion of match card length.

Previously, there were just 3 matches per weekly card, 4 for big PPV events like Payback or TLC, and 5 for the biggest like WrestleMania.

Now that's been expanded by 1 across the board for MyGM when playing on Normal or Hard Difficulty, bringing things to: 4 matches per weekly card, 5 for big PPV events, and 6 for WrestleMania.

WWE 2K22 MyGM: The return of GM Mode

It's been over a decade since GM Mode graced the SmackDown vs. Raw era of the WWE gaming franchise, and in previous year it'd never seen the light of day since 2K took over the series.

That's finally changing, as WWE 2K22 MyGM has revitalized the beloved game mode of the past, something that was first confirmed in the WWE 2K22 feature reveal trailer.

The best look at the game mode in action came via the MyGM Deep Dive in the second WWE 2K22 Ringside Report, and you can watch that below:

We had the opportunity to test an early build of MyGM in the weeks prior to launch, and that first impression left us hopeful that this simplified version could still deliver.

MyGM Draft: Building your WWE 2K22 roster

Everything in MyGM begins with your own personal WWE Draft, and it lays the foundation as you look to build a balanced and diverse roster.

MyGM has taken on the big board feel of the WWE Draft and those from other areas of the sports world, and you'll get to see each move in action as the opposing brand makes their own selections.

You'll also have the option to create a Custom Draft Pool to include more Legends or Created Superstars, and we've got more details here on how to do that.

Players will be keeping an eye on several pieces of information, as you'll want to snag superstars of every Class while not spending too much money on your initial draft.

Fortunately, WWE 2K22 MyGM has a Recommendations feature to help point you in the right direction if you're not sure which superstar should be the next to join your roster.

MyGM Show Format, Titles, Match Types

Things will definitely be a bit different for players who may have played GM Mode in the SmackDown vs. Raw series, but even the simpler format remains enjoyable and challenging.

While GM Mode once had as many as 6 to 8 matches per show, MyGM has taken things down to a more basic level where every standard weekly show consists of exactly 3 matches and 2 promo segments.

Most bigger events and pay-per-views like TLC or Extreme Rules have 4 matches and 3 promo slots, and WrestleMania itself has 5 matches and 4 promo slots.

One of the disappointing factors this year is that MyGM has just two titles per brand, a Men's and Women's Championship, leaving the Tag Titles a hopeful inclusion for next year.

You'll also only be able to book singles or tag team matches in MyGM, and those can be made into a Tables Match, Extreme Rules Match, TLC Match, or Hell in a Cell Match.

Available promo types include Self Promo, Call Out, Role Change, Charity, and Advertising, each of which serves its own purpose.

5-Star Match tips

As you dive into WWE 2K22 MyGM, it can be tempting to disregard or not hold fast to some of the rules and guidelines the game presents early on.

Whether it's during the draft or as you're crafting cards, fans often spot potential dream matches featuring their favorite wrestlers of the past or present and feel they'd be a perfect rivalry.

However, WWE 2K22 MyGM cares much less about who your favorites were and much more about how Class, Role, and Popularity equate to quality matches.

Check out our Tips & Tricks for 5-Star Matches.

Ratings, Budget, and Roster Management

Working through MyGM is a challenge, and there are several different pieces of the puzzle that players will have to consider each week.

While one goal is to simply excel in the ratings and pummel your competition with a superior show, there's much more strategy at play and key budget balancing needed.

Superstars signed during the draft and some picked up as free agents later will have a permanent contract, but there will also be plenty of options available with shorter contracts that can bolster your roster in the short term until you decide whether they're worth keeping.

After each week, you'll get a detailed screen as seen below showing the fans and money gained (or lost) from your show.

THE NUMBERS: MyGM is packed with details on how things change week to week

Try to check the Show Notes each week and keep an eye out for reactions from fans, as they'll sometimes signal if a specific wrestler does well in a specific match type.

Each week you'll also have full view of how the opposing brand is doing, and you can see whether your own actions such as the use of Power Cards helped hinder their success.

While much of your time will be in building and bolstering your roster, it's possible to find yourself in need of cashflow, and WWE 2K22 MyGM lets players release a single superstar each week in order to recoup some of their contract costs for a quick monetary boost.

Update 1.06 announced

While WWE 2K22 hasn't had anywhere near the kinds of problems that WWE 2K20 faced at launch, there have still been some bugs and crashing issues popping up for players.

Most troubles have been related to the creation suite, as usage of created superstars and those downloaded via Community Creations have caused problems in Universe Mode and elsewhere.

Fortunately, the next major set of bug fixes has been confirmed and we've got more details here on the official patch notes.
