With the NBA playoffs nearing an end, basketball fans are counting down the days to NBA 2K23. We're currently in the final stages of NBA 2K22, which is nearing Season 7 in a long line of new content.

Here's everything players can expect from NBA 2K23, including the game's potential release date, cover star candidates, player rating predictions, and more.

LATEST: NBA 2K22 Season 7 is coming soon

NBA 2K22 Season 7 is fast approaching, and will mean a brand new batch of content drops across MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and beyond.

While fans are holding out hope for some big drops beyond just reputation rewards, it's becoming increasingly more likely that further innovations will be waiting in NBA 2K23 instead as NBA 2K22 winds down.

While we may not see much in terms of new content in NBA 2K22 Season 7, the team may use this time to experiment with some gameplay adjustments like the dribble move speed changes earlier this year.

Depending on what's changed in NBA 2K22 Season 7 and how players react, these changes could also make their way into NBA 2K23 gameplay.

NBA 2K23 Release Date

The NBA 2K23 release date has not yet been revealed, but looking back at the last few years gives us a very good idea of when to expect the game to launch.

Most recently, NBA 2K22 was released on September 10, 2021, and this year 2K chose not to do any Early Access or release a demo before that worldwide launch.

LOOKING AHEAD: We've already got an idea of when NBA 2K23 will arrive

While we could see this change with NBA 2K23, it's equally possible that they'll choose to continue with the singular worldwide launch day rather than providing ways to play before release day.

Going back further, NBA 2K21 was released on September 4, 2020, NBA 2K20 was released on September 6, 2019, and all three of the previous release dates for this franchise fell on a Friday.

With all that in mind, we expect the NBA 2K23 release date will be Friday, September 9, 2022.

NBA 2K23 Ratings: Who will be the highest-rated player?

We have a few ideas for potential players that could land at the top of the NBA 2K23 ratings. This includes:

  • Nikola Jokic
  • Joel Embiid
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo
  • Kevin Durant
  • James Harden
  • Lebron James

As new NBA 2K23 ratings are revealed, we'll update here with all the latest news.

Betting Odds for NBA 2K23 Player Ratings

While NBA 2K23 is still very far away, that didn't stop BetUS from releasing special betting odds based on future NBA 2K23 ratings.

Unfortunately this betting window has now closed, so you won't be able to head to BetUS to place some money on these yourself, but they do give us an interesting idea of what oddsmakers were expecting at the time.

All of the bets were based on whether a specific player will be over or under a given player rating next year, and while the odds themselves were relatively similar across the board, the threshold rating to go over or under did change between players.

Here are some of the potential ratings oddsmakers based their bets around:

  • Kevin Durant, 97.5 OVR
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo, 97.5 OVR
  • LeBron James, 96.5 OVR
  • Steph Curry, 96.5 OVR
  • Kawhi Leonard, 96.5 OVR
  • Nikola Jokic, 96.5 OVR
  • Joel Embiid, 96.5 OVR
  • James Harden, 96.5 OVR
  • Luka Doncic, 96.5 OVR
  • Damian Lillard, 94.5 OVR
  • Jayson Tatum, 93.5 OVR
  • Trae Young, 91.5 OVR
  • Bradley Beal, 91.5 OVR
  • Zion Williamson, 90.5 OVR
  • Karl-Anthony Towns, 89.5 OVR
  • Rudy Gobert, 89.5 OVR
  • LaMelo Ball, 87.5 OVR
  • Khris Middleton, 87.5 OVR
  • Ben Simmons, 86.5 OVR

As a reminder, these numbers signify the middle ground, so the bets were on whether players would be over or under the given rating, making these what oddsmakers view as the most likely middle ground between two ratings for some of the league's biggest stars.

NBA 2K23 Cover Athlete Predictions

After an action-packed NBA season, there are plenty of candidates to be the NBA 2K23 cover athlete.

This includes some potential first-ever cover stars as well as a few legends who could snag one last cover.

KING JAMES: Could LeBron find his way back to the cover one more time?

The first is LeBron James, who especially might be in the running if his last year in the NBA is coming soon (and after 19 seasons in his career, it's looking increasingly likely).

In addition, Steph Curry continues to be one of the league's most dominant scorers, and he's a very strong possibility to grace the cover once again with the Warriors showing out in 2022 through key injuries.

As for new options for the cover spot, MIP winner Ja Morant, MVP winner Nikola Jokic, and MVP runner-up Joel Embiid stand out as likely candidates as well.

Platforms & Game Modes

One big question for players approaching NBA 2K23 is what game modes will be available on what platforms.

As it stands, NBA 2K22 offers current-gen specific content for players on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This includes Neighborhood in place of The City which is its new and improved evolution for next gen, and MyLEAGUE/MyGM in place of the newly combined MyNBA which is also exclusive to next-gen consoles.

If 2K continues in this direction, players will have a much better experience with NBA 2k23 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S - including exclusive features and even big improvements on game modes available in both versions like MyCAREER.

When will we see a Reveal Trailer?

Looking back at how things went the last few years, we've consistently seen the first big NBA 2K reveal land in June or July with the reveal trailer.

NBA 2K20's first trailer arrived on July 1, 2019, NBA 2K21's arrived on June 11, 2020, and NBA 2K22 was first revealed on July 14, 2021.

It seemed like some of the hurdles to getting The City fully integrated with MyCAREER made the development process extra hectic for NBA 2K22, and may have influenced some slight delays in how much later we got a proper gameplay trailer.

Hopefully that won't be the case for NBA 2K23, as we expect the next reveal trailer will arrive in either late June or early July of 2022, with a gameplay trailer arriving just weeks later.
