Supercell's Clash of Clans has been going strong for a long time. There are rumours that it might be shutting down, but that remains to be seen. For now, though, we're looking forward to the Winter Update for 2021 and - presumably - building up to another Clashmas event! Here's everything you need to know about the new update.
UPDATE - Huge Reductions about to be permanent
The big talking point around Clash of Clans' next update is the fact that there's going to be huge cost reductions coming permanently. This is going to make build times significantly less, cheaper to get underway and increase the speed of labs.
Here's what Supercell has confirmed so far:
- Most buildings have had their Gold upgrade cost cut by 10-25% between TH7-TH12
- The Laboratory is getting massive cuts to Elixir costs and upgrade timers, especially on the first few levels of each Troop
- Heroes too! Barbarian King and Archer Queen get moderate cost and timer cuts through the middle levels (30-65), while the Grand Warden and Royal Champion receive large cuts to cost and timers for the first several levels to help players unlock their abilities sooner
- Did we mention Walls? Walls are getting 25-60% of their cost reduced from TH6 all the way to TH12.
Looking at the Clash of Clans social media accounts, it looks like this is going to be arriving in a matter of hours - after today's maintenance.
Clash of Clans Winter Update 2021 Release Date
We aren't quite sure when the Clash of Clans winter update will release but we have a good guess. Generally, we see the update near the start of December and they tend to arrive on a Monday. For this reason, we think we could see it as early as Monday, December 6th.
If we don't see it then, it seems likely that it will arrrive over the week after that date. We will update you right here as soon as we figure out the official date.
What is the Clash of Clans Winter 2021 Update?
Just like the October update, the Clash of Clans winter update comes with a thematic overhaul, changing the aesthetic of the game for the month. Alongside this, we see a new Christmas tree, troops, levels and more.
Essentially, the winter update makes the game just a little bit bigger.
What happened last year?
Last year, we saw tonnes of new things come to the game over December. First, we saw a brand new scenery change, shifting the theming of the game for a month.
After this, we saw new troops in the form of Ice Hound and Super Wizard. We also saw new spells, levels and tonnes of little balances.
Last year's update worked as an overhaul and a big bug fix. It resolved some longstanding issues and fixed some of the game's systems. We're hoping for the same this year.
