FIFA 23's official release date is edging closer and closer and Career Mode fanatics cannot wait to create a fresh save in the new game.

The holding midfield position, or 'number six', is becoming increasingly important in the modern game, with Pep Guardiola's system being replicated by many teams across England.

With that in mind, we're taking a look at the best young central defensive midfielders (CDMs) to sign in FIFA 23 Career Mode.

Top Picks

There are some brilliant young central defensive midfielders around at the moment, with Premier League duo Declan Rice (OVR 83) and Ruben Neves (OVR 83) right up there.

Manuel LocatelliJuventus£40 million (est.)8286

Leicester City's Youri Tielemans is already 84 OVR and despite his primary position being a box-to-box centre-mid, the Belgium international is more than capable of playing in the number six position.

Italian pair Manuel Locatelli and Sandro Tonali are both great options too, with 82 OVR and 84 OVR cards that have plenty of room for development.

Highest Potential

Some players need a few more seasons before becoming the best, but that means you could swoop in early and pick one up for cheap before their rating (and price) shoots up.

Real Madrid and France sensation Eduardo Camavinga has the potential to reach the very top in Europe, with an OVR potential of 90.

The likes of Boubacar Kamara and Ibrahim Sangare will excel within just a few seasons of growth in Career Mode.

If you are operating on a tight budget then Club Brugge's Noah Mbamba is a great option given his potential of 88 OVR.

Our Picks

As we know, even if a player has a high rating, it doesn't necessarily mean they will be great to use in-game.

With that in mind, here are our top picks for the best young CDMs in FIFA 23.

When picking a CDM we want a player who can read the game well, is physically robust, strong in the challenge and confident at playing passes through the lines of the opponent's press.

We don't think there is anyone better than Sandro Tonali in that regard, and if you have the money you should try and sign him as early as possible!

ALL-ROUNDER - Tonali has brilliant stats across the board

Boubacar Kamara doesn't have a high potential quite as high as the others in the list, but could still be a top player for your side, with brilliant stats that fit the meta and an 86 OVR potential.

If you are after a cheaper option then River Plate's Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez could be the man for the job.
