If you're looking for the best Air Max sneakers from Nike available right now, you're in the right place.

After originally debuting on the Nike Air Tailwind, the Air Max model was arguably the first sneaker in Nike's arsenal to popularise its revolutionary air cushioning technology following its release in 1987.

However, the Air Max design has changed several times over the years, resulting in Nike renaming the sneakers according to the year each of its new Air Max models launched.

In many ways, this is what separated the Air Max from some of the best Air Force 1s as Nike decided to rework their own silhouette, resulting in stand-out new designs, like the "Gorge Green" 1s, still being made to this day.

The Travis Scott x Nike Air Max collaboration saw five new Air Max 1s debut; however, we feel this “Baroque Brown" colourway is, not just the best of the bunch, but also one of the best Air Max sneakers around right now.

The shoes feature an incredibly unique design that incorporates a ton of different materials. For instance, the wheat-coloured mesh uppers are completely contrasted by dark brown nubuck overlays.

You also get pops of chile red dressing the laces, plus Travis Scott's signature details like the reverse Swooshes, also featured on the new "Reverse Mocha" Jordan 1s, and the CACT.US CORP branding on the outsoles.

On the whole, these “Baroque Brown" Travis Scott 1s are, in our opinion, some of the best Air Max sneakers available right now.

Nike's NRG range typically contains some of the most highly sought-after sneakers around; however, as evidenced by these incredible “Ashen Slate" Air Max 90s, this isn't without reason.

The uppers combine light grey mesh with darker grey and blue suede overlays that should make these shoes stand out when on your feet.

Moreover, being an Air Max 90, only the three air bubbles in the heels are exposed for a slightly more simplistic and refined aesthetic that's ready to be paired with almost any outfit.

All in all, we feel these “Ashen Slate" Air Max 90s are well worth considering thanks to their excellent design and combination of unique materials. If you're not sure between this and the 1's though, make sure you check out our comparison of the Air Max 1 and 90 right here to help you decide.

In our opinion, these “Anatomy of Air" Air Max 95s are in and amongst some of the best sneakers for summer around due to their refreshing design and colour scheme.

The uppers begin dressed in white, but fade down towards a deep red as you approach the off-white midsoles.

Other unique design details include the contrasting grey mudguards, the rope-style laces, and the "Anatomy of Air" branding behind the tounges.

Ultimately, we feel you won't find many sneakers better suited to a summer rotation than these “Anatomy of Air" Air Max 95s.

Best Air Max 97 - Nike Air Max 97 "Black University Red"

From a light, summery offering to something much darker, these "Black University Red" Air Max 97s are perhaps better suited to winter months; however, that doesn't stop them from being some of our favourite Air Max sneakers around right now.

According to Nike, the design draws inspiration from Japanese bullet trains and water droplets, but is retouched slightly to include lightweight tech woven mesh and premium leather panels.

While the bulk of the uppers come dressed in black, vibrant pops of University Red burst through, reminiscent of some of the best Jordan 1 colourways of all time.

That being said, the sneakers should be easy to coordinate with almost any outfit given their predominately neutral black colour scheme.

Best Air VaporMax - Nike Air VaporMax Plus “Since 1972”

Strictly speaking, Nike was founded in 1964; however, the company was originally called Blue Ribbon Sports up until it became the infamous sportswear brand seen today in 1972.

So, in celebration of this milestone, these VaporMax Plus sneakers feature custom "Since 1972" branding on the tongues and insoles.

The rest of the shoes arrive in white with light teal overlays and turquoise midsoles above the infamous VaporMax air bubbles, making them striking to look at and, therefore, one of our top picks.

Best Air Max Plus - Nike Air Max Plus "Grey Orange"

The "Grey Orange" Air Max Plus features a stylish blend of grey mesh with black and orange TPU overlays that fade into one another to really make these sneakers stand out from the crowd.

In fact, the orange is not too dissimilar to the tone featured on the new "Dark Russett" Patta Air Max 1s, although a greyscale aesthetic mostly dominates this "Grey Orange" colourway.

The midsoles then include four windows into the Air Max technology in action, which is just another reason why we think these particular Air Max Plus sneakers deserve a place on our list.

Best Upcoming Air Max

Despite being 35 years old, Nike continues to produce new variations on the Air Max to this day. With that in mind, here are some of our ones to watch over the coming months.

Frequently Asked Questions About Air Max

With so many Air Max sneakers to choose from, you may have a few questions about them. Don't worry though because we've answered some of the most commonly asked queries right here.

Where To Buy Air Max Sneakers?

There are several places we'd recommend exploring for new Air Max shoes, many of which we go more in-depth on in our list of the best places to buy sneakers.

Our first recommendation is to visit the Nike store directly as it tends to be the first place you'll find new Air Max drops, plus Nike offers a 60-day (30 in the UK) returns policy in case you're not 100% satisfied with your order.

Nike also has a useful launch page called SNKRS. New Air Max colourways usually get listed here ahead of their release, with the website allowing you to sign up for push notifications about specific sneaker drops as well.

If the Air Max sneakers you're after are sold out at Nike, then we'd suggest heading over to the resale market on websites like StockX. StockX authenticates every purchase to ensure the second-hand sneakers you're buying are legit.

Are Air Max Sneakers Comfortable?

Generally speaking, Air Max sneakers are incredibly comfortable to wear thanks to Nike's unique air bubble technology implemented into their soles.

However, it's important to get the right size to ensure they're comfortable on your feet.

The simplest way to do this is to draw an outline around your foot and measure its length and width before comparing your measurements to one of Nike's size charts to determine what size Air Max sneakers you need.

Make sure you're aware of any differences between Nike and adidas sizing though, and check out a more detailed summary of how to measure shoe size right here.

What's The Best Way Of Lacing Air Max Sneakers?

One of the most common ways of lacing a pair of Air Max sneakers is a technique we've actually covered before in our guide to lacing Jordan 1s.

To start, simply create a straight bar with your shoelace across the first row of eyelets.

Then, take the two lengths and cross them over in the middle before threading them through the next set of eyelets up on the opposing sides.

Repeat this until you reach the top ready to tie a knot.
