Brush up! - Desert temples are in for a makeover

The brush is being added as a new tool, which you'll use to uncover secrets in your nearby deserts. Expect a fair few new blocks to come along with it as well, and you can try all this out right now in the Java Snapshot and the Bedrock Beta.

This comes as part of a pretty big overhaul to deserts, which will no doubt come as a breath of fresh air for explorers. Desert Temples will look the same, but now the rewards for finding and exploring one will be much more satisfying.

How does Archeology Work?

Head out to a nearby desert, and locate a desert temple, which is the first dig site to be added, with more on the way. While you’re digging, look out for a new block: suspicious sand! As the name suggests, you need to tread carefully here.

What will you find in the Suspicious Sand?

Break out your new brush, and get to work. Carefully brush your block of suspicious sand, which allows you to extract whatever is hiding within, which can be anything from pottery shards to random objects!

Partial patterns will be painted on the shards, and once you collect four shards, you can put them together for a pot! There are different patterns that tell unique stories and make for very decorative accents in your builds.

That's not all though, as there are a ton of other secrets to uncover in this update that is being kept under wraps for now. Rumours of secret underground libraries are a very exciting prospect and could be an awesome way to progress.
