Pac-Man 99 is Now Available on Nintendo Switch


No one saw it coming, but we're not complaining! Nintendo has just revealed and released Pac-Man 99 on the Nintendo Switch eShop

In a similar vein to Tetris 99, Pac-Man 99 is a battle royale title with a classic arcade game twist. Here's everything you need to know.

Nintendo has added twenty different custom themes to Pac-Man 99, all based on classic NAMCO games like Dig Dug and GALAGA.

These change both the visuals and the audio of Pac-Man 99, so if you really liked Xevious you're in luck!

Players can finally jump into the newest innovation on Pac-Man gameplay, Pac-Man 99!

This game will challenge players like never before by pitting 99 Pac-Men against one another in each match to see who can be the last one remaining.

Pac-Man 99 Release Time

Pac-Man 99 launched at 9pm ET on April 7 (2am BST on April 8).

You can download the game now on Nintendo Switch!

How to Download

For now, you'll have to be a Nintendo Switch Online member to download Pac-Man 99.

The same was the case for Tetris 99 when it launched, before it was opened up to all players later on.

If you play games online on your Nintendo Switch, you'll probably already be a Nintendo Switch online member, but if not you can sign up for it.

Once you've signed up (it is $20 for one year's membership), you'll be able to head to the Nintendo Switch Online tab of the eShop and download Pac-Man 99 for free.

If you're new to Nintendo Switch Online, you can check out Nintendo's website for how you sign up.

It also features all the information you need on what the bonuses are for signing up and what games you'll be able to play with a subscription.

Nintendo has confirmed that Pac-Man's download size is 767 MB.

So make sure you have enough space free on your Switch's hard-drive or SD card.

How It Works

Finally, we'll break down exactly how Pac-Man 99 works.

It's very similar to Tetris 99 in design, with a few quirks courtesy of it being a different base game.

While the basic idea is to chase down ghosts and eat pellets, you'll also have to focus on the 98 players you're up against.

As the game's description reads, you'll need to "Eat a Power Pellets to turn the ghosts blue and make them vulnerable. Eat them to send Jammer Pac-Man to your opponents! The more ghosts you eat, the more Jammers you'll send!"
