FIFA 23 Rangers Career Mode Guide - Starting lineup, who to sign & more

Rangers didn't manage to retain the Scottish title last season, so you have a pretty clear aim in FIFA 23 Career Mode - get it back!

The squad could also use a bit of a rebuild, so bringing in promising young players on a budget and developing the side will also be a priority.

Team Rating

Rangers has a three-and-a-half-star rating in FIFA 23.

The breakdown of the ratings is as follows: ATT 73, MID 72, DEF 70.

Starting Lineup and Formation

Rangers’ default is a 4-3-3 Attack formation, but we're going to switch it to a 4-3-3 Holding to get the best midfielders playing in their preferred positions.

The front three is made up of the hard-working and mobile Tom Lawrence, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

The box-to-box John Lundstram and Glen Kamara have Ryan Jack sitting behind them in the midfield three.

CAPTAIN FANTASTIC - Tavernier is the start man in the side

Full-backs James Tavernier and Borna Barisic will spend most of their time attacking down the wings.

The centre-back partnership is Connor Goldson and Ben Davies, offering protection to veteran Allan McGregor in goal.

Tactics and Instructions

We're keeping the tactics as they are, as Rangers should be the superior side in the majority of their matches.

That means defensively it is Pressure On Heavy Touch with a high line, looking to press the opposition back and pounce on any mistakes.

Offensively, it is Slow Build Up and Possession, controlling the game and getting as many players forward, waiting for the right time to play the killer ball.

Morelos is told to Stay Central to keep him close to the goal.

POACHER - Get Kent to make darting runs into the box for easy tap-ins

Both wingers on Free Roam, Get In Behind and Get Into The Box For Cross, looking for any space to burst past the defensive line and provide tap-ins for each other.

Jack is on Stay Back While Attacking and Cover Center to prevent potential counterattacks and is also asked to play as a Deep Lying Playmaker.

Both full-backs will Join The Attack and Overlap, overloading the opposition when in possession and providing some more width to the side.

Training

Rangers have a few youngsters you should look to train up, helping develop your side without needing to spend on the transfer market.

Look to train up Ridvan Yilmaz (POT 82), Alex Lowry (POT 79), Kent (POT 78), Rabbi Matondo (POT 78), Leon King (POT 77), Ben Davies (POT 76), John Souttar (POT 75), Adam Devine (POT 75) and Charlie McCann (POT 75).

Some of them might not become first-team quality as you improve the side, but they could still play a decent squad role.

Transfer Market

Starting budget: £21 million

Who should go?

Some of the players are quite old, there is no point in getting rid of them, and you may as well let them see out their careers with the club.

Feel free to let go of Kemar Roofe, Tom Lawrence, Scott Wright, Scott Arfield and Robby McCrorie, which could add an extra £9 million to your budget.

Loans

Rangers have two players out on loan in FIFA 23, but neither of them is worth keeping hold of on their return.

Malik Tillman and James Sands are both on loan with the club, but their departure at the end of the season won't make much difference to the club.

Who to sign?

A new CB would be first on our wishlist, someone who can slot into the first team and stay there for years to come.

TOP TARGET - Joao Victor would be a great addition to the side

Joao Victor would be our first choice, but anyone on the list would be a great acquisition.

We would also look to bring in a promising young goalkeeper to take over from the ageing McGregor - who may only have a season or two left.

Luckily, this shouldn't cost a massive amount, and you could give any of the keepers suggested the number one spot from the start.

Then, if you have the budget, look to bring in a promising RB and CM or CDM, as this will help give you more squad rotation players.

Board Expectations

There is one main aim the Rangers board has for you in FIFA 23, and that is Domestic Success.

It is a critical priority and you need to win the League and the Scottish Cup.

Of high priority is Brand Exposure, where we were tasked with signing two players of different nationalities from the club.

Youth Development is a medium priority and we needed to sign a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward to the Youth Academy.

Another medium priority is Continental Success, which could be tricky as you need to reach the quarter-final of the Champions League.

Of very low priority is the Financial task - so there is no need to worry if you don't complete it - and we needed to sign two crucial players and also make a profit of £30,100,000.
