When does the 2022/23 Champions League Group Stage start?


The 2022/23 European football season will soon commence, which means we can begin to look forward to the Champions League group stages.

Real Madrid were crowned winners of the 2021/22 Champions League following one of the most memorable knockout stages runs off all time.

The Spanish giants were humbled by Moldovan minnows Sheriff Tiraspol in the group stages but recovered to qualify for the knockouts. They went on to beat Chelsea, PSG, Manchester City and Liverpool in a remarkable journey to the trophy.

With the 2022/23 European football calendar starting to take shape, here are all the key dates for your diary regarding the 2022/23 Champions League.

When does the Champions League group stage start?

The 2022/23 Champions League campaign has already begun for some with the preliminary round having gotten underway on June 7th to decide the participants for the qualifying rounds.

The three qualifying rounds will take place throughout June and July with the final stage of Champions League qualification is the playoffs, which will commence on August 2nd.

The group stages will take place from August 25th onwards, which will see Europe's elite play games in conjunction with their league schedules. The tournament will start earlier this summer due to the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
