When it comes to anticipated video game releases, few can match the constant discussion and speculation surrounding the potential for From Software's Bloodborne 2.

A sequel to 2015's Bloodborne, the anticipated sequel is a title demanded by fans of the "soulsborne" series of titles, especially those who play on Playstation consoles like the PS5. While this demand is also split between a desired remake/remaster of the original as well as a PC release: The potential for a Bloodborne 2 is the most exciting possibility.

So when can we expect to see it? Here is what we know so far.

Rumour: Is Bloodborne Showing Up at State of Play?

In case you missed it, PlayStation announced that a new State of Play event will be happening on Thursday, June 2nd 2022. This announcement, naturally, led to large waves of rumours, speculation and "leaks" and it wouldn't be any of those things without Bloodborne cropping up a few times.

Now this month's State of Play will be featuring titles from third-party developers as well as some PSVR2 content so yes, this may be where the long-awaited Bloodborne 2 will show up.

There is no official announcement that Bloodborne will be there in any capacity and all the "leaks" currently floating around on Twitter are, of course, fake. Could it still happen? Absolutely. Will it? It's unlikely.

Is Bloodborne 2 Happening?

One of the larger questions when it comes to Bloodborne 2 is whether or not the game is even happening to begin with and much like everything else surrounding the alleged sequel...the answer is unclear.

According to Hidetaka Miyazaki, game director for the Soulsborne series of games including Bloodborne and 2022s Elden Ring via an interview with Gamespot Brazil: It's not his decision to make.

The interview, which has since become unavailable outside of a translation on ResetEra, discusses the design philosophy of From Software, as well as Bloodborne's then status as Miyazaki's favourite but the most vital bit of info, is that discussion about a sequel.

The idea that it's not a decision Miyazaki can make suggests that only PlayStation can make that decision but this only provides more questions than answers. With the popularity of Bloodborne and From Software's recognition being at an all-time high due to the success of Elden Ring, a new entry or even a re-release of the original would seem like it has to happen. Yet, as of writing, we've heard nothing.
