NHL 23 Esports Tournament gets rebrand and extended schedule


There are some new rules surrounding the NHL 23 Esports tournament and we're going to take a look at them below.

There's also been a name change and an extended schedule, all of which we'll cover including quotes from the NHL.

NHL 23 Esports Tournament Rebrand

The NHL 23 Esports tournament was once known as the NHL Gaming World Championship but is now known as the EA Sports NHL 23 World Championship.

The tournament will return to in-person competitions with the finale set for June of next year in Nashville just before the NHL Draft.

NEW BRANDING: Get ready for some brand new on-ice action.

The NHL's Vice President of Business Development and Technology Partnerships, Chris Golier said:

"We know that the gaming community loves to meet up in person, cheer on the competitors and obviously compete if you're one of the last few left standing."

Expanded NHL 23 Esports Schedule

One of the most notable changes for this year's program is the expanded NHL 23 Esports schedule, which is vastly different from last year.

Registration opened last year on March 1, this year, registration for the EA Sports NHL 23 World Championship and other related events is set to open on December 8 at nhl.com/gaming.

NEW SCHEDULE: Players will have more time to register and play this year.

Finalists from the early-season online tournaments in both North America and Europe can attend in-person finals at two of the league's winter events:

  • All-Star Weekend in Florida in January
  • The 2023 Stadium Series in Raleigh, N.C. in February

The expanded schedule also gives players time to get familiar with the inner workings of NHL 23.

Crossplay on the way to NHL 23

Along with the NHL 23 Esports tournament news, we received news regarding crossplay in NHL 23.

The first phase of cross-platform matchmaking was enabled on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
