How to Upgrade Weapons in Hades

While you can upgrade weapons in Hades via Boons and Daedalus Hammers in each run, you will want to know how to upgrade them permanently.

If you're jumping into the game now that it has come to PlayStation and Xbox consoles this week, we've got a guide on how to get the best out of your weapons.

How to Upgrade Weapons in Hades

What you need to know first of all is that you cannot upgrade weapons in Hades right from the start of the game.

Before you can do so, you'll need to collect enough keys from runs to unlock all six weapons in the game.

You don't have to have used the weapons, but you'll need to have unlocked them. This should take at least ten runs to do so.

Then, you'll be able to unlock the Weapon Aspects, which are the permanent upgrades, using Titan Blood. Titan Blood can be obtained in a few ways, including:

  • Defeating the first boss with a weapon for the first time
  • Defeat the final boss with a weapon for the first time
  • Each time you defeat the first and final boss with an increased Heat level (once for each increase)
  • Trading at the shop at the House of Hades (by the chef)

Once you've unlocked the weapons and got a good supply of Titan Blood, head over to the icon of the weapon where you unlocked it in the armoury and press R1 to 'speak to Varatha'.

You'll then be presented with a list of all the Weapon Aspects you can unlock, what they do, and how much Titan Blood they cost to unlock.

You'll need five Titan Blood to max out a weapon's most basic Aspect, with the others costing around 15.

How to Unlock Hidden Aspects

When looking at the Weapon Aspects to upgrade your weapons, you'll likely spot a Hidden one at the bottom. You'll need to do some extra things to be able to unlock that.

First of all, you'll need to unlock five Weapon Aspects across all weapons, not including the basic 'of Zagreus' one.

Then, you'll need to unlock the Fated List of Minor Prophecies and reach the final boss in one run of Hades. By the time you've unlocked all weapons, you'll likely have done both of these things anyway.

The final thing you need to do is keep speaking to Achilles between runs until he brings up the true nature of your weapons. Below is who you need to keep speaking to for the Hidden Aspect of each weapon.
