FIFA 21 Ratings: Is Diogo Jota's outburst justified?

Much is made of the FIFA ratings every time a new game comes out, with players often left disappointed with their stats.

Liverpool forward is the latest player to voice his displeasure, but does he have a point? Find out more below.

Player Ratings

Aymeric Laporte, Romelu Lukaku and now Diogo Jota are just three of the players to have criticized their FIFA 21 ratings this year.

In a recent interview, Jota said “I think they were taken by surprise when I went to Liverpool. They thought I was going to stay at Wolverhampton and then they didn't even bother to upgrade my card.

CRITICAL THINKING! Lukaku has claimed the ratings are all part of a publicity stunt

I kept the data from last season, and despite being one of the best scorers in the Europa League and everything, they didn't even bother.”

However, the Portuguese forward wasn’t too upset, remarking that “'as long as they send me my 99 card, which it seems every professional player is entitled to, I am happy.”

I think we would all be happy with a 99 OVR card Diogo!

Is 80 OVR harsh?

Liverpool’s new forward Jota has started the season brilliantly, but how does he compare to other left wingers (LW) in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic is rated 81 OVR on FIFA 21, but is he deservedly rated higher.

CAPTAIN AMERICA! Pulisic enjoyed a superb 2019/20 season

On the face of it, yes. Pulisic’s nine goals and four assists in just 25 games outweighs Jota’s seven goals and one assist while at Wolves.

‘But Chelsea are a better team’. The Blues only finished seven points above Wolves, but I’ll answer your cries.

STAR MAN! Villa's best player has more reason to be miffed with his rating

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish has an equal rating to Jota with 80 OVR. Grealish still outscored the Portuguese forward despite playing the season in a relegation battle.

Winter Refresh

Despite the stats suggesting that there are other LW with a higher output in the Premier League, Jota’s form so far this season has been exceptional.

Jota has seven goals already, including three in the Premier League and a hattrick against Atalanta in the Champions League.

SAME SAME! Jota's stats barely changed from last year

The 23-year-old seems to save his best form for European competitions as he scored two hattricks in last season’s Europa League.

If he can maintain his red-hot form this season, he is certainly in with a chance of a Winter Refresh come January!
