Xbox has finally confirmed what games we're going to be getting with Xbox Live Gold - and technically Game Pass Ultimate - in Games With Gold next month. They're not bad, but they're not the best we've seen. Here's everything you need to know.
CONFIRMED - Games With Gold games announced!
Warhammer: Chaosbane, Mulaka, Zone of The Enders HD Collection, and Samurai Shodown 2 have all been announced as September 2021's Games With Gold games. Classically, our predictions were way off.
They're going to be available from the following dates:
- Warhammer: Chaosbane
- September 1st until September 30th
- September 16th until October 15th
- Zone of The Enders HD Collection
- September 1st until September 15th
- Samurai Shodown 2
- September 16th until September 30th
You can check out a little bit about what they're all about in the video below:
When do we find out what games we're getting?
Every month, Xbox's Major Nelson announces the upcoming Games With Gold games at the same time. It's quite useful and means we know exactly when we should find out what September has on offer for those of us looking to make the most of our Games With Gold options.
Generally, the announcement is around 08:00 PST / 11:00 EST / 16:00 BST on the last Wednesday of the month. It is occasionally delayed, but with no major showcases coming up for Xbox specifically, we should see the announcement made on August 25th.
What could those games actually be?
At this stage, this is anyone's guess really. Xbox's Games With Gold offers two Xbox One games, and then two older titles via Backwards Compatibility. We don't think September is going to change the format of content coming from Games With Gold so that means we could see some very old games!
It's been a long time since we've seen an Assassin's Creed game on Games With Gold and we think it's about time we see Assassin's Creed III make a return to player's screens. This could be the Remastered version of the game, but we could also see Xbox offer us the older version of the title due to Backwards Compatibility. We would also be fine with Assassin's Creed Liberation, to be honest with you.
In addition to this, Upper One Games' Never Alone is another title we want to see added to Xbox's Games With Gold lineup for September. There's a lot to take away from this game and it's truly a fantastic telling of a traditional Iñupiaq tale - Kunuuksaayuka.
Games like Portal 2 and Cuphead are always on our wish list, too, but we're not so sure Xbox is going to give us something quite so widely requested. It's just not how Games With Gold seems to work...
When will they be available to download?
Games With Gold Games release in a staggered pattern, with two games releasing at the start of the month and two releasing halfway through. As you can see below, we're looking at still being able to download Yooka-Laylee for at least another two weeks of September alongisde the new Games With Gold titles.
The first Xbox One game will be available for the whole of September from September 1st. The second one will be available on September 16th after Yooka-Laylee leaves Games With Gold. Then, one older Xbox title will be available for the first two weeks of the month and one will be available for the second two weeks.
It's an interesting system, but it seems to work for Xbox. It does give you something to look forward to halfway through the month if the game is particularly exciting.
