Where are Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Set?

With the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet fresh in everyone's mind, it's time to take a deep dive into what we can find out about where Generation 9 is set and the influences it has taken from real-world locations.

What have we seen so far?

While we may not know the name of this latest region just yet, it is already boasting some gorgeous visuals and striking locations.

From the opening moments, we saw a large portion of the region as a whole. Rolling hills and mountains, along with forests in the night and lush grasslands filled with Liligant.

Alongside these vibrant locals, we also caught a glimpse of some more desolate areas. A dry desert with Sojourner lumbering across the dunes will have players navigating some precarious terrain.

However, for players looking to take a little break from the hustle and bustle of catching Pokémon, it looks like there will be a beach area for you to relax on... that is, if you don't mind the Pelipper and Claunchers roaming around you.

We also saw some more urbanized areas, including a large city with a grand building at its centre, with a gilded Pokéball to top it off.

Where is the New Region Based on?

While it is too early to confirm just yet, early indications suggest that this newest region may be loosely based on Italy or Spain. Previous Pokémon generations have taken influence from Japan, France, and most recently the United Kingdom in Pokémon Sword and Shield's Galar Region.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Pokémon trailer without us having a look at the first location of the game: the player's house. Set in a secluded area with palm trees and a lovely tiled path to the front door, the opening homestead looks to be a villa of sorts, playing further into the speculation that this region is based in the sunnier climbs of Italy or Spain.
