Expectations ahead of Manchester City's trip to Anfield on Wednesday are high. There is an assumption that there will be goals, relentless attacking football on both sides and a disregard for defending.
That appeared to be the case when the teams met in the Premier League early in the year. Liverpool became the first and last side to inflict a league defeat on Manchester City, a breathless 4-3 victory that perhaps gave an indication of what we can expect across two legs.
There is, however, a possibility that the first leg of a Champions League quarterfinal might be a more tactical affair. It is unlikely that the game will not be aesthetically pleasing, given the nature of the two teams, but it is a tie that could be decided on fine margins.
Lessons will have been learned from the January meeting at Anfield. With that in mind, here are three key battles that could decide Wednesday evening's first leg.
