The Golden State Warriors will once again be the team to beat this season as the reigning NBA Champions. The only real difference this year is the addition of all-star center DeMarcus Cousins (once healthy) and the fact that they won’t have to face LeBron James in the NBA Finals. With that in mind, do not be surprised to find them winning their third straight title with the help of Kevin Durant.
Stephen Curry, PG (OVR 95)
Traits: All-Around Superstar
Best stats: Mid-Range, 3Pt, Stamina
Curry has easily established himself as the greatest shooter in NBA history. The best part about the current roster is that he no longer has to push himself every night. When he’s on the court, he is an absolute monster. Last season, he was able to rest many games due to injury and the team never missed a beat.
Locked in to the Warriors until the 2021-2022 season, we can expect him to find success for years to come. After averaging 26.4 points, 4.2 3-pointers made and just barely missing the 50/40/90 club again by shooting 49.5% FG last season, we can expect Curry to be a top player in NBA 2K19 once more.
Klay Thompson, SG (OVR 89)
Traits: Two-Way Star
Best stats: Mid-Range, 3Pt, Lateral Quickness
As Thompson enters his last contract season with the Warriors, he will look to maintain his status as one of the top shooting guards in the league. At a relatively shallow position, Thompson continues to prove himself in terms of both durability and consistency. Even with a very powerful starting lineup, Thompson finds ways to impact the game to the tune of 20 points, 3.1 three-pointers made, and 3.8 rebounds per game. While his scoring has dropped slightly since the signing of Kevin Durant, Thompson still holds elite value due to his efficiency.
Kevin Durant, SF (OVR 97)
Traits: Two-Way Superstar
Best stats: Layups, Mid-Range, 3Pt
KD is inarguably one of the top players in today’s game. By coming to the Warriors, he guaranteed himself many opportunities at NBA titles to ensure his spot in the hall of fame. While constantly putting up monster stats (26.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game last season), it's no question that he was the missing piece to put this team over the top into legendary status. Durant also offers roster flexibility with his size and ability to play the 2, 3 or 4 man spots during the course of a game.
Draymond Green, PF (OVR 87)
Traits: All-Around Star
Best stats: Strength, Blocks, Lateral Quickness
Draymond Green is loved by Warriors fans, but hated by most of the rest of the league’s fans. With a reputation of a cocky and sometimes dirty player, Green knows how to get in the heads of opponents and shake their mental state. As one of the leaders in technical fouls every season, you never know what to expect out of Green any given night. While he fills a very unique role for a big man, he still posts averages of 11 points, 7.6 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. This all-around stat set and the ability to fill either the power forward or center positions provides a lot of roster versatility for the Warriors.
DeMarcus Cousins, C (OVR 90)
Traits: Offensive SuperStar
Best stats: Strength, Stamina, Post Offense
Cousins was on the way to a MVP-level season finish last year until he found his time cut short due to an Achilles injury. He finished with averages of 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists over 48 games played. This injury has career-changing ramifications and resulted in a lot of teams holding out on offering him a max level contract in free agency.
As such, Cousins will gladly join the best team in the league in hopes of proving his health and level of play, also while getting an NBA title in the process. While we technically won’t see Cousins in a real game until 2019, players will be able to use him on day 1.
