Deathloop: How to Save Your Progress

Deathloop, Arkane's latest time looper shooter, has just hit shelves for a second time on Xbox Series X/S and made a pretty huge splash.

With tonnes of glowing reviews (including ours), there are plenty of reasons to get stuck in there yourself. This all being said, the game can occasionally be a little deceptive about how some of its central systems work. You may have to really explore around to figure it all out. Here's how to save your progress in Deathloop.

How does the loop work?

Before getting to this, it's important to know how the game works. If we don't know this, we can't figure out why the save system is the way it is.

Essentially, as Colt, you are placed on an island and the only way of escaping the perpetual time loop you have found yourself in is by taking out all the central targets. One assassin is out there to stop you directly whereas the rest are only out to protect themselves.

This means that dying and living again is a central part of the experience and what you must do to beat the game. If you think you can beat the entire thing in one go with tactical saves, you simply can't.

You need to figure out crucial information, learn combinations and everything else. It's a game about learning what you can and cannot do.

How to Save in Deathloop

This is where the save system comes in. There is no way to manually save the game right now, likely because it would make traversal too tedious. Instead, you have three lives before the loop restarts and autosaves will keep you from losing too much progress.

Every time a loop starts or you go to a new area, the game will automatically save. You have to work around this system if you really want to save.
