In the days leading up to FC 24's release, there was genuine excitement and enthusiasm. Fans hoped it would be the beginning of something great, possessing the edge that FIFA lacked and offering gamers a brand new footballing experience.

Several gameplay issues, Title Updates, and price discounts later, the question is, has FC 24 been a success or a flop so far? To help answer that, we sat down with popular FIFA and EA FC content creator MGH, who shared his thoughts on the game.

A storied career

Producing his first-ever FIFA Career Mode video over 12 years ago, MGH, also known as Matt, has established himself as one of the most respected, talented, and dedicated YouTubers around, racking up an incredible 824K subscribers and millions of views.

Mainly known for his Career Mode content across multiple FIFA's and FC 24, MGH has become a big advocate for not only the game as a whole but Career Mode in particular, often sharing his and the community's feedback with EA to make it even better.

It's been just over five months since the first ever EA SPORTS FC game officially launched, what have you made of it up until this point?

"I would say at this point, the game certainly has many issues - but generally speaking a solid foundation to build on. I have played my fair share of Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs (I haven't touched Volta - no surprise there!) but of course my main gametime has been spent on Career Mode.

The core gameplay is in a relatively poor state across all game modes and it's not particularly fun to play, however, it could be tweaked in future patches of course. EA have always seemed to struggle with balancing the gameplay between online and offline - they aim for a much more arcade-like style for Ultimate Team which unfortunately doesn't sit quite right when it comes to offline games in my opinion, and this has certainly been an issue again this year.
I have been creating Career Mode content since 2011, and I can say that this has been the toughest year so far in terms of genuinely enjoying playing the game."

FC 24 signalled the start of a brand new era for both EA and the player base, although we can't help but feel that it's basically the same game with a different name. Is that a feeling you also share, and were you surprised by the lack of change from previous FIFA titles?

"I think we all expected more with FC 24, however, I do believe shifting away from the FIFA license will benefit the game in the long run. EA will certainly have more creative freedom and it will just come down to development time and putting the new ideas into future titles. I certainly expect more fleshed-out features and developments going into FC 25 and beyond.
I, like many others, was extremely curious and intrigued with how the shift from FIFA to FC would go, and entering this new era. Yet it genuinely feels like nothing has changed if I'm honest."

It's well-known that FC 24 has had its fair share of bugs and gameplay issues since day one, you've even highlighted some of them in your videos. Considering it was the first instalment of the EA FC franchise, how disappointed were you to see the game launch with so many flaws?

"Unfortunately it's not a surprise, every year we experience massive game-breaking bugs and issues, and it takes a while for EA to release patches and fixes. However, it's worth mentioning that this is a trend seen across the entire gaming industry!
In recent years it has somehow become acceptable to release unfinished products with a view to just fix it post-launch. It is extremely frustrating. Myself and other creators are in dialogue with EA, they are aware of all of the issues, it's just a case of waiting for them to actually fix them."
