What is 'The Griddy'?
The Griddy was invented by Allen Davis who posted videos of him doing the dance online when he was in high school. The dance was then popularised by former LSU and current NFL stars Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson.
In an era of viral trends, The Griddy was then paired with the song "Right Foot Creep" by YoungBoy Never Broke Again. From there, the trend has gone from strength to strength, featuring in some of the world's biggest games.
Available as an emote in Fortnite, as well as celebrations in both Madden and FIFA games, The Griddy is now a global sensation.
Even the inventor of The Griddy, Allen Davis, has been involved in immortalising the routine, claiming "It’s been amazing to watch the biggest athletes in the world celebrate their touchdowns, goals, and wins by doing The Griddy."
EA x The Griddy
FIFA 23 is not the first time 'The Griddy' has made it into gaming as it has been in Fortnite for some time, however, EA took an extra step by highlighting the man who made it possible.
Allen "Griddy" Davis spoke briefly to EA about the opportunity to see his dance featured.
“To have a dance I created immortalized exclusively in Madden NFL 23, FIFA 23, and future EA SPORTS releases is a dream come true,” he said.
The celebration can be performed by any player in FIFA 23, with no need to unlock or buy the animation.
How to hit 'The Griddy'
The Griddy is a celebration that was new to FIFA 23 and it is one that can really rile up your opponents after netting a goal. If you find yourself getting frustrated by your opponent celebrating, you can turn off goal celebrations.
Chelsea and USMNT star Christian Pulisic was the man who pioneered the celebration within FIFA 23 when he was spotted performing the move in clips of the game before it was released.
