A brand new look at God of War: Ragnarok was just shown during the PlayStation Showcase. It's our first true trailer for the game and it has fans HYPED.

God of War: Ragnarok was officially revealed just under a year ago in September 2020. It was considered brave, even at the time, to slap a 2021 release window at the end of the trailer.

The Covid-19 pandemic was already causing havoc worldwide and especially within the games industry. As expected, the title was delayed to 2022 but we've seen nothing of it since the reveal tease.

New God of War: Ragnarok Details

It's widely expected, without any proof, that God of War: Ragnarok is set to headline the PlayStation Showcase on 9 September. Understandably, fans are itching to get a proper look at the game, especially when so little is currently known.

We believe a new trailer is the bare minimum to expect from Ragnarok at the Showcase. A failure to show anything at this event would bring a huge cloud of doubt over the new 2022 release window.

When the God of War reboot showed up at E3 2016 it was already quite far along in development but still needed another two years before release. Using this as a benchmark means that Ragnarok must be much further along now to honour a 2022 release date of any kind.

Ragnarok Release Date

After the initial delay away from 2021, the only date given was 2022. There could be a couple of reasons for this. Not giving a specific season or month gives the team more time to make changes on the fly without having committed to anything specific.

It also has an effect on the outlook shareholders have on the coming year. By announcing a year, shareholders can plan when they expect to see a financial return on the release of the game. We see no reason why God of War: Ragnarok will miss its planned 2022 window right now, but stick with us for updates as they're available.
