Pokemon Unite: Game Update Arrives August 4th

Pokemon Unite, the latest MOBA for the Nintendo Switch, announced via their Twitter account that the game is receiving a big update this Wednesday, just some weeks after its release. Here's what we know so far.

The patch will include first tests of the "Spectate Mode" - but that isn't even the biggest part!

The first Pokemon Unite update since launch also brings a ton of big balance changes for half of the roster, and also includes some important bug fixes.

GROWING UP: Many characters in Pokemon Unite are getting buffs in the new update

Charizard - It was evident with the poor design of Charizard, who is one of the most popular characters of the entire Pokemon franchise, that he would soon get a buff to feel like the powerful pokemon he is. And that buff has arrived.

  • Flamethrower:
Cooldown reduced, Effects on opposing Pokemon strengthened.
  • Fire Punch:
    Effects on opposing Pokemon strengthened.
  • Fire Blast:

    Effects on opposing Pokemon strengthened.

  • Double Slap: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased. Effects on opposing Pokemon strengthened.
  • Sing: Effects on opposing Pokemon strengthened.
  • Dazzling Gleam: Bug Fixes

Absol - is a decent character, however its damage seems to decay in comparison with other speedster. They will fix a bug and boost its damage.

  • Basic Attack: Bug Fixes
  • Night Slash: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased.
  • Sucker Punch: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased.

LOOKING BACK: Some characters in Pokemon Unite needed a nerf right from launch

Cinderace - this attacker is a big headache if you face it in your line alone. So they reduced its attack and some damage and mobility.

  • Stats: Attack decreased
  • Blaze Kick: Damage dealt to opposing Pokémon decreased.
  • Feint: Move Downgrade
  • Pyro Ball: Damage dealt to opposing Pokémon increased.

Gengar - its reign of terror might come to an end, even though they are just nerfing the movement of one skill; so if is your favorite pick, you can remain calm.

  • Basic Attack: Bug Fixes
  • Shadow Ball: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased.
  • Hex: Move Downgrade
  • Dream Eater: Move Upgrade

Cramorant - they are nerfing Whirlpool perhaps trying that more players explore the Dive skill, which damage will be increased. Nonetheless, reducing its burst will make him more vulnerable.

  • Whirlpool: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon decreased.
  • Dive: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased.

Balancing

Zeroara - with one skill designated only for mobility purposes and just one for damage. Provoke some of its prey to be able to escape. They fix a bug and boost damage but they also made its Unit Move less overpowered.

  • Spark: Bug Fixes
  • Wild Charge: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased. Cooldown reduced.
  • Unite Move "Plasma Gale": Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon decreased.

Machamp - not a very popular Pokemon, it is fair to believe he will continue on the same path with one skill buff and another skill nerf.

  • Basic Attack: Bug Fixes
  • Cross Chop: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon decreased.
  • Close Combat: Damage dealt to opposing Pokemon increased.

Eldergoss - the changes in the best supporter of the game are interesting. They are nerfing his healing abilities which is the main talent of this character. But it is receiving a buff in crowd control and mobility.

We can understand these changes to help chances for players in solo Q picking or facing Eldergoss. But overall this can be consider a Nerf.

  • Cotton Guard: Cooldown lengthened. HP restoration decreased.
  • Cotton Spore: Cooldown reduced. Effects on opposing Pokemon strengthened. This move’s Defense, Sp. Def increase has been strengthened.
  • Unite Move "Cotton Cloud Crash": HP restoration decreased.

Spectator Mode

Despite data miners finding leaks about this mode some days ago, we have not received official details. Spectator Mode is a natural move if Pokemon Unite's plan is the creation of tournaments, helping content creators, and attracting competitive players.

This patch is very compelling and sooner than expected. Perhaps Pokemon unite is preparing the ground for their incursion to the Mobile Market next month.

Stay tuned for more updates!
