Horizon Forbidden West is full of collectibles to find, one of which is Black Boxes. They contain recordings from fallen old world planes and are usually hidden behind Sunken Barriers or Metal Flower blockades. Once you've found them though, the Black Boxes in Horizon Forbidden West will ask you to 'find a use for the recordings'. Here's what you need to know.
How to Get Black Boxes
There are 12 Black Boxes to find in Horizon Forbidden West and you'll come across them natuarally when sweeping through the question marks on the game's map.
They'll be added to your inventory as collectibles, but the description of them will just say "find a use for the recordings" with no directions whatsoever.
Thankfully, there is one simple thing to do with Black Boxes, you just need to work out where to go. I couldn't find it myself without some help from a fellow reviewer at Twinfinte.
Where to Take Black Boxes in Horizon Forbidden West - 'Use for Recordings'
If you head to head to Memorial Grove, head through the front door and continue into the main throne room, where you would have been a few times as part of Horizon Forbidden West's story, you'll see a stall in a room to the right.
You'll looking for Untalla, who has a stall and is playing a old world Black Box recording of her own. She's looking for all the messages she can find and hopefully you'll have some to give her.
In exchange for the Black Box recordings, Untalla will give you rare machine parts. Some of them you'll already have, but others are very rare ones that you'll need for weapon and armor upgrades. Getting the parts in exchange for Black Boxes is much easier than heading out to find the machines in Horizon Forbidden West's world.
You might as well trade in all of the recordings you have too. There's no other use for them, so get rid of them while you can. If you find more of the tweleve, take them back to the same place to trade once more.
