Microsoft's recent acquisition of Bethesda Softworks is a statement of intent from the company as they look to bolster their Xbox Game Pass portfolio.
As well as the new Bethesda titles, EA Play has also been added to the subscription service, and according to Microsoft's Phil Spencer, the company won't be slowing down its acquisitions any time soon.
Phil Spencer on Xbox Game Pass
Microsoft Head of Gaming Phil Spencer recently spoke with GameReactor, touching upon many topics including Xbox Game Pass.
"As Game Pass continues to grow, we need to continue to feed that subscription", explained Spencer, "so, with the growth that we are seeing, I expect we will constantly be in this mode of bringing more creators into the fold".

If this statement is anything to go by, Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda could well be the first of many.
Microsoft's acquisition targets
Phil Spencer also delved into the types of games he thinks are currently missing from Game Pass' repertoire:
"If we look at what people are playing on Xbox, what Game Pass subscribers are playing, I think what is missing from our portfolio is casual content with a broad appeal. E-rated content (to use an ESRB rating) is not a strength for us."
Spencer references the likes of Minecraft and explains that this is the sort of game type that Microsoft will be looking to expand.
So in short, Bethesda will not be Microsoft's final acquisition by a long shot, but it may be the final of its kind for quite a while.
