Today, the full reveal of MLB The Show 22 and the cover athlete took place, and it was revealed that this year's game will be launching on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
MLB The Show 22 launching on Xbox Game Pass
MLB The Show 21 was the series' first appearance on Xbox consoles and it also launched on Game Pass. It was clearly a success as the series will be returning to the service this year.
The series was a PlayStation exclusive before 2021, so it's huge that it's coming to Xbox Game Pass once more. MLB The Show 22 will release on April 5, 2022, and it's coming to Xbox Game Pass on the same day.
We also learned that Shohei Ohtani will be the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete, and for many it was a no-brainer when looking at who the biggest star in baseball was last year.
After an epic year as one of the most impressive two-way players in MLB history both pitching and hitting, Shohei Ohtani was named American League MVP, All-MLB First Team, All-Star, and AP Athlete of the Year.
Ohtani also won the Silver Slugger Award, Edgar Martinez Award, and Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award in the same season, once again solidifying his case as baseball's biggest superstar.
Nintendo Switch Version
It has also been revealed that a Nintendo Switch version of the game will be launching for the first time.
Since the box art has been revealed for the game, it will likely be a physical version, rather than a cloud version like Dying Light 2 and other big games.
We haven't yet learned about the Collector's Edition, but they did confirm one will be revealed on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, which is likely to mean a legend will grace that deluxe version.
We've also learned today that crossplay and cross-platform progression will return, including on Nintendo Switch, which is huge news for the title.
This means players will be able to compete against one another across all platforms, but it will also allow them to play and transfer progress across them.
We've seen some versions of this in the past, but no major sports title has ever gone this far to provide connectivity and features between PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo like this.
With the release date now looming, things will continue to crack on with more reveals from Sony San Diego between now and April 5, 2022.
