When we see more MLB The Show 22 Legends revealed, we'll update you here.

Legend cover athlete leaked

While the primary MLB The Show 22 cover athlete has been revealed, there's another huge name to come as we are once again getting a legend on this year's collector's edition.

Dubbed the MVP Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition on The Show's website, these follow in the footsteps of the Jackie Robinson Edition last year which put that icon center stage.

While they'd initially stated the reveal will take place on Wednesday, February 3, 2022, fans won't even have to wait that long thanks to a potential leak.

We've got details here on the leaked legend who looks to grace this year's Deluxe Edition of MLB The Show 22.

MLB The Show 22 cover athlete trailer reveals Shohei Ohtani

After plenty of anticipation, the easiest decision you could imagine was made official as the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete will be Shohei Ohtani.

No player set baseball on fire in 2021 quite like Ohtani, and we got to see that on display in this MLB The Show 22 cover reveal trailer on "Defining a Legend."

This is huge news, but it's something that seemed a bit obvious considering Ohtani's epic year ending with name unanimous AL MVP as well as winning the Silver Slugger Award, Edgar Martinez Award, and Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award.

Shohei Ohtani will be the face of MLB The Show 22 for the Standard Edition, and it has an official release date of April 5, 2022.

Digital Deluxe & MVP Edition Cover Legends: Buster Posey or David Ortiz

Sony San Diego has done international covers for years, often highlighting players for Korea or Canada for their regional versions, but MLB The Show 21 marked a change.

MLB The Show 21 featured a special Jackie Robinson Edition highlighting his prolific and historic career on a deluxe special edition cover and version of the game.

We've now learned MLB The Show 22 will have an MVP Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition featuring a legend on the cover, and there are a few big names that could be in the running.

Buster Posey became the longest tenured player in Giants history when he began the 2021 season, and he went on to deliver an unforgettable closing chapter that garnered his second NL Comeback Player of the Year Award ahead of Posey announcing his retirement.

THROWBACK: Ortiz was the first man to be the face of The Show

However, we could also see MLB The Show 22 pay homage to one of its own legends in David Ortiz, as "Big Papi" was on the cover of MLB 06: The Show, the first game in franchise history to use "The Show" in the title.

A new deluxe legend cover for David Ortiz would be a fantastic homage to the history of the MLB The Show franchise, and he remains a fan-favorite among players who continue to dominate today with Ortiz in Diamond Dynasty.
