Tottenham: Harry Kane signs new six-year contract

Harry Kane has committed his future to Tottenham by signing a new six-year contract worth around £280,000 a week. The striker will earn an eye-watering £90 million across his new deal.

The move marks a significant change in policy for Tottenham, smashing their previous wage structure as they prepare to mark a new era by moving into their new 62,000-seater stadium.

The 24-year-old has scored 108 goals in 150 Tottenham appearances and he is an integral part of the dressing room structure at the club, acting as vice captain to Hugo Lloris, as well as captain for the England national team.

At the end of the 2017/18 season, manager Mauricio Pochettino appeared to break ranks by urging Daniel Levy to "take risks" in the transfer market, and it appears that the Tottenham chairman is prepared to back his man.

Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli are expected to follow Kane's lead and commit themselves to the club, however Toby Alderweireld is still likely to leave this summer.

Pochettino is expected to make two or three big signings this summer with priorities being a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, a centre back, left back and a wide forward able to back up Kane too.

Tieing down Pochettino and now Kane could see Tottenham viewed differently by competitors, successfully warding off interest from the world's biggest clubs for their prized assets.

Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping that Spurs will soon follow Liverpool's lead by nailing down their targets. His key target at the moment appears to be Manchester United's Anthony Martial.
