Ritsu Doan became a Japanese hero on Wednesday afternoon with his World Cup goal against Germany levelling the scoreline with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Who is Ritsu Doan?

Ritsu Doan is a 24-year-old winger who currently plays his football for Bundesliga outfit Freiburg.

The winger made his 30th cap for the Japanese national team during Wednesday's clash with Germany, scoring the equaliser after Manuel Neuer palmed a cross back into the danger zone.

Starting his professional career at Gamba Osaka in his native Japan, Ritsu Doan moved to Dutch outfit Groningen in 2017 on loan before making the switch to PSV Eindhoven in 2019.

A spell at Arminia Bielefeld followed before Freiburg added Ritsu Doan to their roster in the summer. He's notched up four goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for the German side this season.
