Brown's Colchester departure: As it happened

Wayne Brown was named as interim manager at Colchester United at the start of the calendar year, taking over the helm of the U's following the departure of unpopular manager Hayden Mullins.

Brown successfully steered the Essex club away from the relegation zone in his time as interim manager and was handed the job on a permanent basis ahead of the 2022/23 League Two season.

Colchester added some headline names to their roster in the summer, bringing in Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff on loan, but this wasn't enough to boost their fortunes.

A 1-0 defeat against Grimsby Town spelt the end of Brown's time at the club following a return of just one win from the club's first nine league games in League Two this season.
