FM 16 Man City: Complete Guide (Wonderkids, Transfer/Wage Budget, Who to Buy/Sell)

FM 16 Man City - How do you take a team that's almost great, and turn into a powerhouse?

FM 16 Man City – How do you take a team that’s almost great, and turn into a powerhouse? They say the biggest leap in sport is going from ‘good’ to ‘great’ which is pretty much the position Man City find themselves in. They are one of the richest clubs and have some of the world’s best players, but are still some way away from being considered amongst the world’s elite. Due to their lavish summer spending, which saw them spend over £135m, they don’t have a transfer budget to start with when you start a game-save. So, how can we make this ‘good’ side, ‘great, with very little money’?

Finances

We’ve given you the minimum and maximum budget available, depending on what your expectations are. Transfer Budget – £0 Wage Budget – £3m – 3.15m

Key players to build your team around

The following players should never be sold and should form the spine of your team for the foreseeable future. Some are obvious choices, others less so, but none of the following players are easily replaced.

FM 16: Premier League Wonderkids XI

Sergio Aguero (27)

He is one of the best strikers in the world, so there’s that…

FM 16 Man City

Kevin De Bruyne (24)

There’s a reason City and shelled out £55m to sign the Belgian wizard, and that’s because put simply, he’s one of the best number 10’s in the world. Don’t believe me? Check this out:

Vincent Kompany (29)

At 29, you could argue his best years are behind him, but on FM, Kompany is one of those majestic defenders who still performs at an elite level into his 30s.

Best youngsters to keep an eye on

Tbe best players on your side that are 21 or younger that you need to keep an eye out for in future. If the player is under 21 and is already someone to build your team round, they won’t be included in this list. Keep the following players either to integrate into your first-team or to sell for a high price later on.

FM 16: Europe’s Best Wonderkids XI

Raheem Sterling (20)

Sterling cost £49m, so you’re probably wondering why he isn’t dubbed a key player. Well, the thing is, Sterling can be very hit-and-miss on FM, and there are in fact better prospects. If he comes good for you, keep him, and enjoy his brilliance. If he stagnates a bit, like he did in some of my game saves, offload and replace him.

FM 16 Man City

Patrick Roberts (20)

Roberts has 4.5-star potential and has the ability to come good for both club and country in future, but you’ll need to carefully pick where you loan him out to.

Players you should consider letting go of

The following are players who could be easily replaced for one reason or another.

How To Sign Any Player For Cheap On FM 16

Fernando

Fernando’s market value starts at £21m, making him a perfect candidate to offload to bring in some younger, more capable faces.

FM 16 Man City

Jesus Navas

Navas is someone who’s value declines majorly from this point onwards, so sell him while his stock’s high at around £15m.

Recommended signings

After selling Fernando and Navas, you should have around £30m to spend.

Premier League’s Best Wonderkids

Youri Tielemans (18)

Anderlecht – £11m This will probably be the last version of FM which allows you to sign Tielemans for relatively cheap, so take advantage of that whilst you can and draft him in as Fernando’s replacement.

FM 16 Man City

Wellington Nem (23)

Shaktar – £13-17m Selling Navas leaves you a little light out wide, but by signing Nem, you now have an assist-machine who more than makes up for Jesus Navas’ absence.
