Chelsea’s loan system has always been a sore point with many criticising their penchant for loaning players year after year, eventually making them group admins of their loan player WhatsApp group.
But the system has caught up with them, especially on the financial aspect of the game.
Both Manchester clubs are out-muscling Chelsea comfortably, with ex-reject Kevin de Bruyne leading City to the title this season.
Another reject, Mohamed Salah, has set the league and continent alight, taking them to the Champions League final.
And amongst other rivals, there is Arsenal, who are embarking on a new post-Wenger era, and Tottenham, who remain strong contenders.
If Chelsea cannot match their main rivals to the title financially, they must do so astutely.
It is here where their loan system could cut down expenditure in certain positions this summer, allowing them to focus finances elsewhere.
