Madden 20: Football Outsiders makes its return to MUT

The football analytics experts are back with their underappreciated gems for Ultimate Team.

Madden Ultimate Team can often feel like you are just cycling through the same players in your team, just from different sets and series. A TOTW player will often already have a quality Power Up card too, or a MUT Superstars version that you can roll out. That’s where Football Outsiders series come in.

The masters of DVOA and football analytics return to MUT with their series of unsung players that have flown under the radar this year. Who are they? And how expensive will these cards be?

Thomas Morstead, Punter (90 OVR)

Team: New Orleans Saints

Best Stats: Kick Accuracy (89), Kick Power (89)

Punting isn’t especially popular in Madden Ultimate Team, but you will still need to win the field possession battle occasionally, and to do so you might want one of the best punters in MUT. With 89 kick power and kick accuracy Morstead can flip the field for you.

At 170,000 coins on Xbox and 168,000 on PS4 he is not overly expensive for such a high OVR player, so if you do punt regularly he is worth an investment.

Joey Slye, Kicker

Team: Carolina Panthers (90 OVR)

Best Stats: Kick Power (90), Kick Accuracy (86)

Kicking field goals is also unpopular in competitive MUT games, but there will be times where you have to, and having a powerful kicker will come in handy. With 90 power and 86 accuracy the second-year kicker has been a revelation for the Panthers.

Adding Slye to your squad via the Auction House will set you back 181,000 coins on Xbox and 189,000 on PS4.

Danielle Hunter, Left End (89 OVR)

Team: Minnesota Vikings

Best Stats: Finesse Moves (87), Play Recognition (87), Awareness (87), Acceleration (86), Pursuit (85), Speed (84)

The Minnesota Vikings offense has been making all the headlines, but the defense has been impressive and Danielle Hunter has led the charge. He leads the NFL with 7 tackles for loss at the moment and has 5 sacks too.

His FO card will cost you 120,000 coins on Xbox and 128,000 on PS4 in the Auction House.

Amari Cooper, Wide Receiver (89 OVR)

Team: Dallas Cowboys

Best Stats: Agility (91), Medium Route (87), Speed (87), Awareness (86), Catching (86), Juke Move (86)

Amari Cooper has been resurrected since his trade to Dallas last season. This year he has racked up 512 yards and 5 touchdowns for the Cowboys as their passing attack trends upward in the league standings.

Cooper is pretty well priced at 142,000 coins on Xbox and 135,000 on PS4.

Jaire Alexander, Cornerback (88 OVR)

Team: Green Bay Packers

Best Stats: Agility (90), Speed (89), Acceleration (89), Press (87), Man Coverage (85)

Jaire Alexander is not often mentioned in the conversation about best cornerbacks in the NFL, but he should be. The Packers defense has been much improved this season. Alexander has racked up 18 tackles, 9 pass deflections, and 1 interception so far this year and is on his way to at least a Pro Bowl invitation.
