FIFA 23 - Lengthy nerf destroys meta

FIFA 23 saw the arrival of new archetypes, creating three unique categories for players and their pace attributes.

The lengthy archetype, assigned to players like Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk was the clear favourite, but now that period is OVER.

FIFA 23 Meta Changes

The lengthy archetype meta-breaking days are over, with a new update bringing a host of changes, including a balancing of the new pace styles.

Now, the three different archetypes of lengthy, controlled and explosive are far more equal, with the advantage now taken away from the taller players.

In a Tweet shared by FUT23News, the Meta was declared dead, with other archetypes now becoming equally as fast, or even faster, than the original meta.

The lengthy archetype has been overpowered since the start of the game but that power now looks to have shifted.

Instead, there will be much greater balance moving forward, meaning that once-overpowered players like Haaland, CR7 and van Dijk may all be about to become a lot worse.

BAD NEWS - Ronaldo could be heavily nerfed in FIFA 23

This change in meta could also signal bad things for FIFA 23 moving forward, with a return to the pace-focussed gameplay possessing the potential to ruin all of EA's good work so far.

AcceleRATE

AcceleRATE is a new feature in FIFA 23 for next-gen players only.

It is designed to distinguish between different running styles for players, splitting them into three categories depending on how fast they can get off the mark, and how long they can maintain a high speed.

These archetypes are:

  • Controlled - most players in FIFA 23 will fall into the Controlled type as they accelerate uniformly in a controlled manner.
  • Explosive - these are shorter and more agile players who are able to quickly cover short distances and get ahead of their opponents, even if that means slowing down after the initial burst of acceleration.
  • Lengthy - taller and stronger, these players need a bit more time to get going, but are able to catch up to anyone and even surpass them, provided they have enough distance.

Not only will this provide more realistic gameplay, it should also highlight player personalities on the pitch and create more diverse player types.
