Call of Duty Modern Warfare: Will we get a free Battle Royale mode in 2020?

Could we see fan favourite MW maps forged together to create the ultimate BR experience?

Call Of Duty saw its first ever Battle Royale title last year with the launch of Black Ops 4 called Blackout.

It’s fair to say that Blackout was the most successful part of the game, allowing players to encounter unpredictability, funny moments and team play all whilst traversing their favourite maps combined in one great big one.

Will Activision take a page out of Treyarch’s books and try the same inside of the Modern Warfare series?

RealSport looks into all the possibilities that MW Battle Royale could be introduced to COD fans in 2020.

Battle Royale

The BR hype has been nonstop since the release of the insanely popular Fortnite, with games such as Call of Duty and BattleField joining in. However, prior to this we have seen the likes of Player Unknowns Battle Grounds (PUBG) and H1Z1 also be broadly successful.

The Battle Royale genre offers a different playing experience than most games and a huge sense of reward by getting closer and closer to being the last man/team standing.

After seeing the success of Black Ops 4’s Blackout, Activision would be silly not to include a BR in this years Modern Warfare, and speculation has it that their own version will be released separately to the full version of the game in 2020 for… free.

Although not officially announced yet, there’s no harm in a little bit of hope! What maps from the MW series would both play and look great in a potential Modern Warfare Battle Royale?

Symbolic for its chaotic gameplay, Rust would make an ideal hot drop of the Modern Warfare Battle Royale map.

Picture being in the final zone with one person left to eliminate and with an Intervention that you managed to scavenge early on you hit a trick shot from the top of Rust tower?! It would bring floods of nostalgic feelings to all old school fans given the opportunity to drop in this location.

Wide-open spaces, lots of buildings to hide and numerous places to blend into the surroundings, Overgrown offers the potential for all styles of play in a Modern Warfare 2019 battle royale.

With there being so many contrasting buildings, trees, bushes and hiding spots, every engagement in this area of the map would be different allow for a variety of gameplay. Not only will this make it more enjoyable to play but also to all those who watch!

What other Maps could we see?

  • Highrise (MW2)
  • Scrapyard (MW2)
  • Village (MW3)
  • Wet Work (MW)

With Modern Warfare having so many vastly popular maps across its series, any one of them could work and be integrated into the potential Battle Royale mode map.

Release Date

With Modern Warfare 2019 set for release on October 25th, you would expect the Battle Royale to launch with it.

Although this is not the case; it has been speculated that if a BR is to be featured with Modern Warfare, it will be introduced in early 2020. With Modern Warfare already having announced that the game will come with a Campaign, Multiplayer and Spec Ops, it only makes sense that the BR would be delayed.

How Much will it Cost?

As we can see above @TheGamingRevoYT conveys coding, that was found deep within the PC beta which depicts that a BR is definitely on the cards for Activision.

With the mode still not being officially announced, no-one really knows how much the BR would cost... however, if Activision wanted their Battle Royale to do the best it could against so many others in the market, it would have to be free.

Yes, free. This would then give people an incentive to download it and play it to see whether they like it and let's be honest who wouldn't love an MW Battle Royale.

What else do we know?

According to both Twitter and Reddit threads, the rumoured Modern Warfare Battle Royale will feature similar aspects to its good friend Black Out.

Although, it will also have double the number of players competing for the number one spot, which makes sense as it's rumoured to be three times bigger that the original Blackout map.

If the leaks turn out to be true and Activision get this right, the game could be a strong contender for one of the best Battle Royale's on the market.
