Will NBA 2K23 be next gen on PC?

NBA 2K23 is now official, and we're slowly learning what players can expect on all the various platforms.

Here's what we know so far about NBA 2K23 next gen features on PC including an official comment by 2K.

Will NBA 2K23 be next gen on PC?

With The City becoming a major drawing point of NBA 2K23 after last year's upgrades and more likely on the way, fans are hoping as many players as possible can enjoy that experience.

Unfortunately, The City and all next gen features this year will once again be gated to Xbox Series X|S and PS5 only with PC, Xbox One, and PS4 left in the dust.

We've got several weeks to learn about the upgrades NBA 2K23 will see, many of which should be available for current gen players, but once again PC users will be in that category.

This comes despite constant criticism from PC players who rightfully point out that most gaming PC specs would be more than adequate.

Will next gen features come to NBA 2K on PC in the future?

NBA 2K22 also kept The City and other next gen upgrades off PC, and 2K has now commented on the situation in their official FAQs for NBA 2K23.

"This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future. For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms."

The reaction to their comment has not been positive from PC users, but the unspoken reality is that 2K (and EA with Madden 23) appears to assume the PC player base will be too small for the time investment to be worthwhile.

Of course, it's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy as many PC gamers could be choosing not to snag NBA 2K or Madden titles on PC until next gen features are included.

We don't yet know enough about new features in NBA 2K23 to determine what PC players will actually be getting, but players can expect The City and other next gen exclusives not to be among them.
