While there is no doubt that the market for mechanical keyboards is pretty oversaturated right now, there are only a few products that can offer the complete package beyond the satisfying click-clack of the key switches and the Razer Huntsman V2 is one of those products.
Keyboards aren't something that you're going to need to replace on a regular basis but if you feel like you could be getting more out of yours and are looking for style, performance, comfort and value, the Razer Huntsman V2 has you covered.
I took a look at the Purple Switch model of the Razer Huntsman V2 and put it to the test in a variety of situations to see how it held up, the results? Let's just say I'll be using this product for years to come!
More than marketing
It's easy to get drawn in by all the buzzwords and features printed across the box of the Razer Huntsman V2 but the reality is that it lives up to everything it advertises.
The first thing I'll address, as it has become far more important in recent years, is comfort. As the Huntsman V2 includes a padded ergonomic wrist pad that magnetically attaches to the bottom of the keyboard, comfort is easy to come by and long typing or gaming sessions are a breeze with no side effects or discomfort.
Another small but ultimately convenient feature of the Huntsman V2 is the media keys and dial. As someone who could usually just use a volume shortcut or headphone controls, the volume dial ended up being my preferred way of quickly adjusting my sound or muting entirely.
The three media keys are also compatible with a variety of programs and sites like YouTube meaning you can get a decent amount of use out of them for a feature that, to many, will be a bit of an afterthought when purchasing a mechanical keyboard.
No compromises
As I have already mentioned, we are reviewing the purple switch model of the Razer Huntsman V2. This model is geared towards quick and snappy keystrokes without the hefty feel of traditional mechanical keyboards.
There is sound dampening foam in place to ensure the sound is kept to a manageable level but in truth, if you're all that bothered by the sound a mechanical keyboard makes, you're probably better off with a completely different product.
The response time is fantastic and anti-ghosting is naturally in play to ensure that gaming sessions aren't ruined. When looking at longevity, the slight texturing to the keys should ensure heavy use without any sign of wear and tear.
You can also customise the RGB settings using Razer's downloadable software. This is where a ton of additional features and really specific actions can be programmed should you wish. I honestly didn't make too much use of this but knowing the option is there is always a plus.
Verdict
I fell in love with the Razer Huntsman V2 very quickly and that didn't fade in the weeks that followed. If anything, with each passing day, my appreciation for this - as Razer puts it - No Frills, All Performance keyboard couldn't get any stronger.
While the Razer Huntsman V2 hasn't made me any better at CS:GO, Valorant, Fortnite or any game, really, it has made pretty much every aspect of my work and play a breeze to navigate.
