NHL 22 Roster Update: More player moves as hype builds for ratings changes

Now that the NHL season is rolling, each NHL 22 Roster Update will look to keep the game current with all the latest league transactions.

With plenty of key roster moves happening ahead of any future ratings alterations, here's all the latest on the newest NHL 22 Roster Update.

Latest - NHL 22 Roster Update goes live with Vasily Podkolzin

The latest NHL 22 Roster Update has arrived, but it looks to have steered clear of anyt significant ratings changes so far.

The new NHL 22 Roster Update was announced via Twitter, both through the official EA Sports NHL account and by NHL 22 Community Manager Clappy.

The biggest change we know of is the addition of Vancouver Canucks winger Vasily Podkolzin, who was given a 78 OVR rating.

With no mention of any ratings changes, it looks like this update likely stuck to more cursory alterations like getting players swapped to correct teams if transactions were made.

NHL 22 Roster Update will give first ratings changes of the season

NHL 22 just arrived via the Trial and Early Access, and is now hours away from a global launch, but things are already changing.

As of now, the in-game Active Roster was updated on October 8, 2021, and as such all moves made on or after October 8 have yet to be changed within NHL 22.

While there were transactions that will draw the eyes of some, easily the most exciting part of the first NHL 22 Roster Update will be seeing the first ratings adjustments of the year.

Even with only seven games on the books so far, there are dozens more in the coming days and a few performances from these earliest matches already stand out.

THE X FACTOR: Ovechkin was one of the few players to receive one of these new unique abilites

Alex Ovechkin is already starting a case for being the highest rated in the game, a position he is narrowly missing with his 92 OVR rating at launch putting him tied at 5th place for highest rated player.

It would be surprising for such a highly rated player to see a boost so early, but scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in the season opener to lead the Washington Capitals to victory in a 5-1 trouncing of the New York Rangers might do it.

Evgeny Kuznetsov also managed 3 assists for the Capitals in that game, making a case for his own improvement as he currently sits at an 86 OVR rating.

Max Pacioretty of the Vegas Golden Knights scored 2 goals and 1 assist in their narrow victory against the Seattle Kraken, while teammate Mark Stone had 3 assists, and both could also be in line for a ratings boost.

Roster moves also expected due to Free Agency and more

In addition to the numerous ratings adjustments that should come with the first NHL 22 Roster Update, we should also see a series of updates based on recent roster moves.

As mentioned above, the current Active Roster in NHL 22 was updated on October 8, 2021, and all of the following moves outlined have yet to be updated in the game.

  • Brian Boyle to the Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Alex Chiasson to the Vancouver Canucks

Player Moves via Waivers (October 8th and onward)

In addition to those moves, Anson Thornton had previously played for the Sarnia Sting in the OHL and was signed by the Arizona Coyotes.

Finally, one trade has taken place since October 8, as the Vancouver Canucks traded Olli Juolevi to the Florida Panthers, and in return the Canucks received Noah Juulsen and Juho Lammikko.
