With the year 2022 coming to a close, it's time to take a look at some of the significant underperformers from the past 6 months and who deserve a downgrade in FIFA 23.
Each year, certain players from across Europe's top five leagues do not live up to the ratings given to them based on last season's performances.
EA will dish out downgrades to those who have performed well below their overall rating and here are our top five contenders.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (OVR 87 - OVR 85)
There's no denying that Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the most talented young players in world football. However, his 87 OVR rating is a tad too high.
The England international's defensive frailties have been highlighted on a number of occasions already during the 2022/23 campaign and it's clear that the 24-year-old needs to work on certain aspects of his game.
An 85 OVR seems fair for the Liverpool academy graduate and he can certainly bounce back up to the high 80s in a couple of years.
N'Golo Kante (OVR 89 - OVR 86)
N'Golo Kante, however, may never reach the heights that he once was at.
The little Frenchman has won almost every team award there is to win in the game and is a true footballing icon, but it's time we start acknowledging his decline.
The Chelsea midfielder has fallen well below his lofty standards over the past 12 months and should be handed a -3 OVR downgrade to an 86 in FIFA.
Hugo Lloris (OVR 87 - OVR 84)
Hugo Lloris is quite possibly the most overrated goalkeeper in the history of football. Yes, he captained his country to a World Cup victory in 2018, but does that make him a world-class 'keeper? No.
The Spurs GK's weaknesses were highlighted throughout the Qatar World Cup and in the final penalty shootout, in particular, where he saved zero shots and was overshadowed by Argentina goalie Emi Martinez.
Lloris should be downgraded to an 84 OVR and even this rating seems slightly generous.
Romelu Lukaku (OVR 86 - OVR 84)
Nobody who has watched Romelu Lukaku play in the past 6 months will disagree with this one.
Plagued by injuries, the former Manchester United and Chelsea striker has just two goals to his name this season and failed to score at the World Cup for Belgium despite being given numerous clear-cut chances.
The 29-year-old should be given a -2 OVR to take him down to an 84 OVR in FIFA.
Eden Hazard (OVR 84 - OVR 82)
What a fall from grace. From a 91 OVR in FIFA 19 to an 84 OVR in FIFA 22, things could be about to go from bad to worse for Eden Hazard.
The once world-class winger has struggled to put a run of games together since arriving at the Bernabeu back in the summer of 2019.
As a result, the player who lit up countless Premier League matches could hit a new low and be downgraded to an 82 OVR in FIFA 23.
