eFootball 2022 is finally here, and is available to download right now on all major platforms for free.
But, before you choose to download the game, perhaps you should find out what the general public has made of Konami's new title so far...
eFootball 2022 reviews are 'overwhelmingly negative'
Fans on social media have not taken kindly to eFootball 2022, to say the least, and it seems the reviews being left on Konami's new game are even worse.
When an individual went to leave a negative review after playing eFootball 2022, he was presented with the screenshot below.
As you can see, the consensus on the new title is 'overwhelmingly negative'.
In fact, the most popular tags on Steam for eFootball 2022 are 'Psychological Horror' and 'Horror', which could perhaps be down to the frightening player faces that have circulated online.
Horror show
One of the biggest letdowns in eFootball 2022 so far is the quality of its player’s faces.
Plenty of pictures have surfaced on social media already, depicting wonky smiles and gurning faces, like the ones you can see below.
Back when Konami originally announced eFootball 2022, the developer revealed that it’s based on an entirely new game engine, which was said to revamp the animation system and would bring us the most realistic football game ever.
Well, it's fair to say Konami has missed the mark with the models.
The graphics issues seem to be affecting players across all platforms too, which begs the question, why was the game released so early if it clearly wasn't ready?
Players flood back to PES 2021
It's more bad news for Konami as the stats back up all the negative feedback that we've seen online.
As you can see from the image above, the users on PES 2021 massively outweigh eFootball 2022's, with over double the number of users opting to play the old game rather than the 'new and improved' version.
You can also see a decline in users of eFootball 2022 as more days have passed, which could mean players are flooding back to PES 2021 or maybe switching over to EA's FIFA 22.
Improvements on the way
Despite all the issues with eFootball 2022, Konami has moved quickly to reassure fans that this isn't representative of the final product and is just a server stress test.
Konami has also stated that it continues to work on improvements to the live-service game.
"After the release of eFootball 2022, we have received lots of feedback and requests regarding game balancing that includes pass speed and defence operation. We would also like to acknowledge that there have been reports of problems users have experienced with cut-scenes, facial expressions, movements of players, and the behaviour of the ball," Konami said.
"We are sorry for the problems, and want to assure everyone we will take all concerns seriously and strive to improve the current situation," Konami added.
So, there is hope after all!
