FIFA 18 wonderkids: All the best French players to sign in Career Mode

With so much talent and flair in their squad, France will be among the favourites for World Cup glory in Russia this summer. Les Bleus were the best team at Euro 2016, but perhaps the lack of experience in such a young, exciting side didn’t get them over the line in the final. More wonderkids have come into the squad since, and you can expect the French to be one of the most entertaining squads at the World Cup.

What is a wonderkid?

We are looking at the best French wonderkids on FIFA 18's Career Mode. These players are all aged 23 and under but have an overall rating of at least 76 and the potential to hit at least 81. Many of these players are exciting and have the potential to be some of world's best.

For a full list of the best French wonderkids, please visit the table at the bottom of this page.

Kylian Mbappe (OVR 84 – POT 94)

Age: 18

Positions: ST, RW

Club: Paris Saint-Germain (on loan from Monaco)

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 93 sprint speed, 92 acceleration, 89 dribbling

Cost: n/a

Wage: £36,000 a week

The best teenager on the planet, Kylian Mbappe has the world at his feet. After banging in goals for Monaco last season, the striker or right winger moved to giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, where he has since scored 15 goals in 27 matches. The 18-year-old joined on an initial loan deal with an £128 million obligation to buy in the summer of 2018.

That loan move means you can't purchase Mbappe until the summer, but he will return to Monaco next season on Career Mode. You will need around £60 million to sign him but expect his wages of £36,000 to jump up massively. Mbappe’s 84 rating can rise to a superb potential of 94, which isn’t bettered by any player on the game. The French international has stats of 93 sprint speed, 92 acceleration and 89 dribbling.

Thomas Lemar (OVR 84 – POT 90)

Age: 21

Positions: LM

Club: AS Monaco

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 88 dribbling, 86 ball control, 86 acceleration

Cost: £79.5 million (release clause)

Wage: £43,000 a week

Sort after by Arsenal and Liverpool in recent months, you wonder if Thomas Lemar will follow Kylian Mbappe out of Monaco. The 21-year-old Lemar scored 14 goals and assisted a further 16 as his side won the French title and marched to the Champions League semifinals last season.

The left midfielder’s attributes of 88 dribbling, 86 ball control and 86 acceleration give him an overall of 84 which can rise to a potential of 90. This will cost you a hefty £79.5 million, and Lemar’s £43,000 a week wages are likely to rise with a big move.

Nabil Fekir (OVR 84 – POT 88)

Age: 23

Positions: CAM, ST

Club: Olympique Lyonnais

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 91 balance, 90 dribbling, 89 ball control

Cost: £70.4 million (release clause)

Wage: £81,000 a week

At the age of 23, it could be the perfect time for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir to make the move to one of the bigger clubs in Europe. The attacking midfielder or striker is the catalyst for his side, scoring 19 goals and creating five more this season.

The Lyon captain will cost you a large £70.4 million and wages in excess of £81,000 a week, but it would be worth it for his 84 overall and 88 potential. 91 balance, 90 dribbling and 89 ball control makes Fekir a very tempting acquisition.

Ousmane Dembele (OVR 83 – POT 92)

Age: 20

Positions: RW, LW

Club: Barcelona

Work rate: High/Low

Best attributes: 93 acceleration, 92 dribbling, 90 agility

Cost: £79.2 million (release clause)

Wage: £132,000 a week

The youngster tasked with replacing Neymar at Barcelona, the 20-year-old Ousmane Dembele has been hampered by injury since moving to the Camp Nou. The winger lit up the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund last season, with his 10 goals and 21 assists earning him a massive £92 million move to Barcelona in the summer.

On the game, Dembele has an 83 overall rating, rising to a 92 potential. His 93 acceleration, 92 dribbling and 90 agility will set you back £79.2 million, but you will need to wait until January to sign him. His current wages are £132,000 a week.

Anthony Martial (OVR 83 – POT 90)

Age: 21

Positions: LM, ST

Club: Manchester United

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 92 acceleration, 89 sprint speed, 88 dribbling

Cost: £65.8 million (release clause)

Wage: £101,000 a week

Consistency has been the problem for Anthony Martial at Manchester United, but there are signs that this could be the season he makes that next step. The left midfielder or striker is set for his best return in United colours this season, with 11 goals and nine assists to his name with still over three months of the season to go.

The 21-year-old Martial offers attributes of 92 acceleration, 89 spring speed and 88 dribbling, giving him an overall of 83. His lucrative 90 potential will set you back £65.8 million with wages of £101,000 a week.

Samuel Umtiti (OVR 83 – POT 88)

Age: 23

Positions: CB

Club: Barcelona

Work rate: Medium/High

Best attributes: 87 jumping, 86 interceptions, 85 standing tackle

Cost: £55.2 million (release clause)

Wage: £119,000 a week

A string of injuries in the French squad lead to Samuel Umtiti receiving an international call-up for Euro 2016, and his performances at the tournament earned him a move to Barcelona. The 23-year-old centre back has since displaced Javier Mascherano at the Camp Nou, forming a formidable partnership with Gerard Pique at the back.

Umtiti is priced at £55.2 million on Career Mode, with wages of £119,000 a week. His 83 overall consists of 87 jumping, 86 interceptions and 85 standing tackle which will improve as he closes in on his 88 potential.

Aymeric Laporte (OVR 83 – POT 88)

Age: 23

Positions: CB

Club: Manchester City

Work rate: Medium/Medium

Best attributes: 86 standing tackle, 85 interceptions, 85 marking

Cost: £50 million (release clause)

Wage: £101,000 a week

Manchester City new signing Aymeric Laporte looks to ensure a solid defence at The Etihad for the next decade. The £57 million arrival from Athletic Bilbao will likely partner Nicolas Otamendi this season, and then form a defensive partnership with fellow youngster John Stones.

Despite his recent transfer fee, the 23-year-old Laporte has a £50 million release clause on FIFA 18 with wages of £101,000 a week. You will need to wait until next season to sign him however, so his 83 overall could have improved towards his 88 potential. The Frenchman’s best attributes include 86 standing tackle, 85 interceptions and 85 marking.

Corentin Tolisso (OVR 82 – POT 89)

Age: 22

Positions: CM, CDM

Club: Bayern Munich

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 89 jumping, 86 stamina, 85 short passing

Cost: £49.7 million (release clause)

Wage: £86,000 a week

Corentin Tolisso lit up Ligue 1 with Lyon last season, which earned him a summer switch to German giants Bayern Munich. The versatile midfielder scored 14 goals and chalked up seven assists for Lyon, and although he has had to be patient at the Allianz Arena, expect him to play a bigger role next season with Arturo Vidal likely to leave the club.

The 22-year-old Tolisso can operate as a central or defensive midfielder, and he holds attributes of 89 jumping, 86 stamina and short passing on the game. You will need to wait until January to get your hands on his 82 overall and 89 potential where he will cost £49.7 million and wages of £86,000 a week.

Kingsley Coman (OVR 82 – POT 87)

Age: 21

Positions: RM, LM

Club: Bayern Munich

Work rate: Medium/Low

Best attributes: 94 acceleration, 92 sprint speed, 87 dribbling

Cost: £45.5 million (release clause)

Wage: £77,000 a week

Tolisso’s Bayern teammate Coman was a revelation when he first arrived in Germany, but the 21-year-old has stagnated. The wide midfielder recorded 12 assists in his first season, but he only managed just one last term. There has been a resurgence this year, with six goals and eight assists, but you wonder if it will be enough to keep him at the German champions.

Coman will cost you £45.5 million on Career Mode, getting you his 82 overall and 87 potential. 94 acceleration, 92 sprint speed and 87 dribbling are dangerous attributes, for which you will need wages of £77,000 a week.

Adrien Rabiot (OVR 82 – POT 86)

Age: 22

Positions: CM, CDM

Club: Paris Saint-Germain

Work rate: High/Medium

Best attributes: 85 short passing, 83 long passing, 82 stamina

Cost: £48.3 million (release clause)

Wage: £73,000 a week

One of few academy graduates to make the cut at PSG, Adrien Rabiot is emerging as a more and more prominent figure in Paris with every passing season. The 22-year-old central or defensive midfielder has made 30 starts so far this season, so he will eclipse the 32 he made last term, and he should have a French title to boot this time around.

Rabiot’s 82 overall rating consists of 85 short passing, 83 long passing and 82 stamina. With a potential of 86, he is a great signing and you will need £48.3 million to get hold of him with wages of £73,000 a week.
