Peter Crouch, Per Mertesacker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marouane Fellaini. The tallest of football players can be hard to contest against at both ends of the pitch. Having a man you can throw on to either battle an aerial bombardment or who can make the difference from a late set piece can be a godsend in any game mode in FIFA 18. We give you the tallest players to sign in both Ultimate Team and Career Mode.

Tomas Holy (OVR 60 – POT 66)
Age: 25
Positions: GK
Height: 6’9”
Club: Gillingham
Country: Czech Republic
Best attributes: 68 GK kicking, 65 GK reflexes, 65 strength
FUT cost: 650 PS4/1,100 Xbox One (57 rating)
Career Mode cost: £343,000 (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £968 a week
Few football fans outside of Gillingham would have heard of goalkeeper Tomas Holy, with the six-foot-nine giant joining the League One outfit in January 2017. The former Sparta Prague man struggled in his native Czech Republic, being sent out on loan to three clubs in as many years. The 25-year-old is now the first choice Priestfield, keeping five clean sheets so far this season.
Holy has a 60 overall rating FIFA 18, with the potential to his 66 on Career Mode. His 68 GK kicking, 65 GK reflexes and 65 strength will set you back just £343,000 and £968 a week wages. On Ultimate Team, he is only rated at 57, which you can get for a price of 650 coins on PS4 and 1,100 on Xbox One.
Lacina Traore (OVR 74 – POT 75)
Age: 27
Positions: ST
Height: 6’8”
Club: Amiens (on loan from Monaco)
Country: Ivory Coast
Best attributes: 91 strength, 80 heading accuracy, 78 positioning
FUT cost: 700 PS4/2,000 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: n/a
Career Mode wage: £30,000 a week
Someone who has flirted with top level football is Ivory Coast international Lacina Traore. The six foot eight inch striker is a handful for obvious reasons, and we have seen his quality during spells at Anzhi Makhachkala, Everton and CSKA Monaco. A hamstring injury suffered at Everton has stunted his development, with the 27-year-old currently on loan at Amiens from Monaco.
With 91 strength, 80 heading accuracy and 78 positioning, Traore is perfect to throw on in the final 10 minutes to find that late goal. Those attributes contribute towards his 74 overall rating, which can rise to 75 on Career Mode. On Ultimate Team, you will need 700 coins on PS4 but 2,000 on Xbox One.
Costel Pantilimon (OVR 73 – POT 73)
Age: 30
Positions: GK
Height: 6’8”
Club: Deportivo La Coruna (on loan from Watford)
Country: Romania
Best attributes: 78 strength, 76 GK reflexes, 75 GK positioning
FUT cost: 450 PS4/500 Xbox One (76 rating)
Career Mode cost: n/a
Career Mode wage: £31,000 a week
A Premier League title and a League Cup are on Costel Pantilimon’s resume with the six foot eight goalkeeper the backup during Manchester City’s 2013-14 successes. After spells at Sunderland and Watford, the 30-year-old is now on loan at Deportivo La Coruna, where he is battling for the number one jersey with Ruben Martinez (OVR 74).
The Romania international has a 73 rating on FIFA 18, consisting of 78 strength, 76 reflexes and 75 GK positioning. On Ultimate Team, you will need 450 coins on PS4 and 500 on Xbox One to get hold of Pantilimon.
Vanja Milinkovic-Savic (OVR 69 – POT 77)
Age: 20
Positions: GK
Height: 6’8”
Club: Torino
Country: Serbia
Best attributes: 73 strength, 71 GK kicking, 70 GK diving
FUT cost: 300 PS4/650 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: £2 million (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £11,000 a week
It’s a tale of what might have been for Vanja Milinkovic-Savic. The Serbia U21 goalkeeper was previously at Manchester United, but after failing to earn a work permit, he left for Polish club Lechia Gdansk. His hard work was rewarded with a move to Torino in January 2017, but the 2015 U20 World Champion is yet to play for the club.
Brother of Lazio and Serbia international Sergej, Milinkovic-Savic has a 69 overall to back up his six foot eight frame. His potential can take him to a useful 77 on Career Mode where he will set you back £2 million and £11,000 a week for wages. On Ultimate Team you are looking at a price of around 300 coins on PS4 and 650 on Xbox One.
Stefan Maierhofer (OVR 65 – POT 65)
Age: 34
Positions: ST
Height: 6’8”
Club: Mattersburg
Country: Austria
Best attributes: 93 strength, 88 aggression, 84 heading accuracy
FUT cost: 450 PS4/2,000 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: £357,000 (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £7,000 a week
One of football’s journeymen, six foot eight striker Stefan Maierhofer has played for no less than 16 clubs during his career. The 34-year-old was a success at Rapid Vienna and Red Bull Salzburg and even had a spell at Bayern Munich early in his career. The former Austria international is still playing regular football in the country’s top flight, playing 15 times for Mattersburg this season.
93 strength, 88 aggression and 84 heading accuracy make Maierhofer an incredibly dangerous on FIFA 18. Those skills are the fundamentals to his 65 overall rating, which will cost just £357,000 on Career Mode with £7,000 a week wages. You will need 450 coins on PS4 and 2,000 on Xbox One to secure the aerial threat on Ultimate Team.
Andries Noppert (OVR 64 – POT 69)
Age: 23
Positions: GK
Height: 6’8”
Club: NAC Breda
Country: Holland
Best attributes: 66 strength, 66 jumping, 65 handling
FUT cost: 2,700 PS4/650 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: £570,000 (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £2,000 a week
The 23-year-old Andries Noppert hasn't been able to tie down a first team place at Dutch side NAC Breda. The goalkeeper has been limited to just three appearances this season, conceding 10 goals in the proccess. An exit now looks likely for the six foot eight stopper, who has now been at Breda for close to four years.
Noppert’s 64 overall can rise to 69 on Career Mode, making him a possible backup option. His 66 strength, 66 jumping and 65 GK handling will set you back just £570,000 in your Manager Mode, with his wages of £2,000 a week. Noppert will cost 2,700 FUT coins on PS4, and 650 on Xbox One.
Ante Knezovic (OVR 58 – POT 65)
Age: 24
Positions: GK
Height: 6’8”
Club: Kristiansund
Country: Croatia
Best attributes: 83 strength, 60 GK handling, 60 GK positioning
FUT Cost: unavailable
Career Mode cost: £166,000 (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £11,000 a week
Ante Knezovic is another struggling goalkeeper, with the 24-year-old making just one appearance for Norwegian side Kristiansund this season. The six foot eight Croatian only signed a one year contract, so don’t be surprised he is let go when the Eliteserien season ends in December.
With a 58 overall and 65 potential, there is no major benefit of snapping up Knezovic on Career Mode. His 83 strength, 60 GK handling and 60 GK positioning will cost you just £166,000 but £11,000 a week wages are overpriced for his ability. Knezovic is unavailable on Ultimate Team.
Aaron Chapman (OVR 58 – POT 60)
Age: 27
Positions: GK
Height: 6’8”
Club: Accrington Stanley
Country: England
Best attributes: 64 GK diving, 57 GK handling, 57 GK positioning
FUT cost: 200 PS4/1,000 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: £85,000
Career Mode wage: £1,000 a week
There have been no such troubles for Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Aaron Chapman. The 27-year-old has made 43 appearances for the club over the past two seasons, keeping 11 clean sheets. As the six foot eight Chapman approaches his peak, it is time to fight for promotions and trophies with Accrington currently third in the League Two table, just three points off top spot.
Chapman has just a 58 overall rating on FIFA 18, which can rise to 60 in Career Mode. For just £85,000 you can get his 64 GK diving, 57 GK handling and 57 GK positioning, with Chapman’s wages only £1,000 a week. For Ultimate Team, you need 200 coins on PS4 and 1,000 on Xbox One.
Mikkel Mena Qvist (OVR 57 – POT 63)
Age: 24
Positions: LM, LB
Height: 6’8”
Club: AC Horsens
Country: Denmark
Best attributes: 78 strength, 68 acceleration, 65 sprint speed
FUT cost: 350 PS4/1,500 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: £179,000 (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £1,000 a week
It’s surprising to see someone so tall out wide, but the six foot eight Mikkel Mena Qvist can operate as left midfielder or left back. If you are looking for someone to win those headers at the back post, the Danish Qvist is your man. The Horsens man has made 16 appearances so far this season, and at the age of 24 he needs to be improving on his output of just one goal and two assists in that period.
Qvist has a 57 rating on the game, comprised of skills of 78 strength, 68 acceleration and 65 sprint speed. On Career Mode, his 63 potential can be yours for only £179,000 and wages of £1,000 a week. 350 coins on PS4 and 1,500 on Xbox One will get you Qvist on Ultimate Team.
Fraser Forster (OVR 77 – POT 78)
Age: 29
Positions: GK
Height: 6’7”
Club: Southampton
Country: England
Best attributes: 80 GK reflexes, 80 strength, 78 GK handling
FUT cost: 700 PS4/700 Xbox One
Career Mode cost: £12.2 million (release clause)
Career Mode wage: £54,000 a week
The best player in our top 10 comes right at the bottom in the form of Southampton and England man Fraser Forster. The six foot seven beast between the sticks has produced many outstanding performances during his time with the Saints and former club Celtic, but the 29-year-old is starting to lose ground on his competitors for the England number one jersey.
Forster is rated at 77 with the potential to hit 78 on Career Mode, costing you £12.2 million and £54,000 a week in wages. His stats of 80 GK reflexes, 80 strength and 78 GK handling are useful, which will set you back 700 coins on both consoles to get hold of on Ultimate Team.
