Widely considered to be the most specialised role on the basketball court, having a top-end point guard is key to any success on NBA 2K20.

As a rule, the point guard will see the ball more than any other player in a teams offense and will be instructed to call the plays are fire a pass or shot when the time is right.

Their important role in dictating plays means they are seen as an on court coach by many, and are the key to unlocking an oppositions defense, both in real life and virtually on NBA 2K.

Here is our list of the five best point guards you can pick up for under 50k on MyTEAM in NBA 2K20.

‘81 Jo Jo White (OVR 95)

Card type: Legacy

Position: PG / SG

Team: Boston Celtics

Best stats: 98 offensive consistency, 98 shot IQ, 95 speed

Price: 37k

The highest overall point guard you can pick up for under 50k is the late Boston Celtics legend Jo Jo White, an incredible 95 overall.

The iconic number 10 jersey which was sported by Jo Jo White during his 10-year stint with the Celtics from 1969-1979 was retired following his retirement in 1982. White won two NBA championships in Boston, in 1974 and 1976, winning the finals MVP in the latter, a series which included a triple overtime win against the Phoenix Suns, often referred to as the greatest game ever played.

White has two stat areas over 90, with 94 playmaking and 93 athleticism - including 95 speed and acceleration - which make him the ideal point guard for those who like to play at pace.

‘80 Earl Monroe (OVR 93)

Card type: Legacy

Position: PG / SG

Team: Washington Wizards

Best stats: 98 offensive consistency, 97 shot IQ, 97 stamina Cost: 47k

Coming up next is yet another NBA great, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe.

Monroe is affiliated with the Washington Wizards in NBA 2K20, however it was with the Baltimore Bullets - as the Wizards were previously known- where Earl started his career, before moving on to join the New York Knicks.

A four-time All-Star, Monroe had his number retired in both New York (15) and Baltimore (10) and was famed for his flashy style of play (90 OVR playmaking).

‘08 Gilbert Arenas (OVR 92)

Card type: Lights OutPosition: PG / SGTeam: Washington WizardsBest stats: 98 shot IQ, 98 hands, 96 draw foul

Cost: 45k

Whilst Monroe spent his time in Baltimore, Arizona graduate Gilbert Arenas is Washington through and through.

Arenas spent seven years in the capital between 2003-2010, making three all consecutive All-Star appearances in that time between 2005-2007. The 6’4” point-guard also spent time with the Warriors, Magic and Grizzlies before a year in Shanghai prior to retiring in 2013.

He ended his career with averages of 20.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG and 5.3 APG and adopted the nickname Agent Zero, due to his favoured jersey number being 0. His ability to get to the line was second to none, highlighted by his 96-rated ability to draw fouls.

Chris Paul (OVR 92)

Card type: SpotlightPosition: PG

Team: Houston Rockets

Best stats: 95 ball handle, 95 passing accuracy, 95 passing vision

Cost: 20k

The only present NBA player in the budget point guard list is former Houston Rocket Chris Paul, currently plying his trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The 34-year-old is currently in his 14th season in the NBA, playing at his fourth franchise having previously played for the New Orleans Hornets, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Houston Rockets. A nine-time NBA All-Star as well as a four-time assists leader and six-time steals leader, all that's missing from CP3’s resume is a championship.

As you would expect from a four-time assists leader, Paul's passing isn’t too shoddy (95 passing accuracy and 95 passing vision), with playmaking being his main strength and an incredible 95 overall.

‘06 Nick Van Exel (92 OVR)

Card type: Prime VIP

Position: PG / SG

Team: ‘97-‘98 Los Angeles Lakers

Best stats: 98 shot IQ, 96 speed with ball, 96 accelerationCost: 11k

The final name in the five is Nick Van Exel - who makes his second appearance in our top fives having also appeared in the top five fastest PG’s list.

The current Memphis Grizzlies assistant and 1998 NBA All-Star ended his playing career with averages of 14.4 points, 6.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game, with his only 20+ PPG season coming in 2001-02 when he averaged 21.4 points per game with the Denver Nuggets.

As highlighted in the fastest point guards piece, Nick the Quick is trademarked for his lightening speed, both with and without the ball, and is a cheaper alternative to Jo Jo White for those who play fast paced ball.
