Skyrim Anniversary Edition - What are the differences?

There are a few important things to note about this launch first of all. The 4K updates and next-gen changes are not exclusive to Skyrim Anniversary Edition. If you have the standard Skyrim Special Edition, you will have received a free next-gen upgrade already.

There are a multitude of important changes the Anniversary Edition makes though. It adds hundreds of mods via the creation club, including tonnes of armor, the ability to fish and farm, and unique quests.

These are handpicked by the team to give an experience that adds to the base game in unique ways. If you know Skyrim incredibly well, this should make for a unique playthrough.

Some of the mods through the creation club have been seen before but a handful of them are entirely new.

Is Skyrim Anniversary Edition Worth Buying?

There are a few things to consider before answering this. First, how familiar with Skyrim are you? Is it something you come back to often or something you feel more or less done with? If you feel done with the game, these mods likely won't change your mind about it but they will provide a unique enough experience to surprise you as you play.

Secondly, do you own the game or have a subscription to Xbox Game Pass? If you do, you can get this edition for significantly cheaper. At just over 10 pounds for the upgrade, it's a pretty good deal for all that extra content.

Overall, it seems that Skyrim Anniversary Edition is cheap enough and has enough unique content to make a second, third, or fourth playthrough worth coming back to. Fundamentally, it's still the Skyrim experience but there's enough there to make coming back to the cold mountains of Tamriel worth your time.
