Fallout New Vegas 2 could be next, according to new reports

According to new reports, creators of the beloved post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian Entertainment, are in "very early" talks with Microsoft for a sequel, Fallout: New Vegas 2.

So what do we know so far about the possibilities of returning to Fallout New Vegas with a new sequel?

Reports point to a new Fallout: New Vegas sequel

These reports come from VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb during the latest episode of his Giantbomb show Grubbsnax, in which he revealed, "This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and these words are 'Obsidian' and 'new Vegas 2'".

Additionally, Grubb mentioned that "A lot of people at Microsoft think that this could work and there's a lot of interest to make it happen."

At first, these reports can be seen as exciting news for fans of the New Vegas line and the Fallout series alike as it's been 12 years since the game's initial launch, but according to Grubb, the sequel would be "years and years away."

Still, Grubb adds "there's at least an interest and conversations happening about making something like that actually a reality."

Who would develop Fallout New Vegas 2?

In a world where the latest entry to the Fallout series, Fallout 4, released back in 2015, and Bethesda's Fallout 5 is a long way away, Obsidian rejoining the Fallout mix with a new New Vegas game could be just what fans of the series ordered.

Obsidian and Bethesda Softworks are both a part of Microsoft as the company bought Obsidian in 2018 and later acquired Bethesda Softworks in 2021. It's possible that unifying both of these developers who have worked on Fallout games all under the Microsoft banner may be the final push to get yet another game into the IP.

While these reports remain unconfirmed, they give fans hope that the next step in Fallout could return to one of its most iconic locations and timelines, and could be a major step up from recent releases.
