The rumour mill is in overdrive as Barcelona have announced that Lionel Messi will not be signing a new contract with the club ahead of FIFA 22.
Not many clubs can afford Messi's enormous wages, but there is still plenty of interest in one of the world's greatest ever footballers.
With that in mind, how will Messi line up in FIFA 22?
Reunited with Neymar
PSG are the favourites to sign Lionel Messi this summer but after their influx of summer signings, will they be able to balance the books?
Messi was recently snapped on holiday with four PSG players including Neymar, so there are connections.
If PSG manages to sign Messi too, they would surely be the favourites for Champions League glory.
An attack boasting Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe could potentially be the best we have ever seen, while Sergio Ramos will provide vital experience at the back.
Barcelona
Barcelona has officially stated that "financial and structural obstacles" will stop Lionel Messi from signing with the club.
"Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled," the club said.
Despite this, Barcelona is still the second-favourites with the bookies as Messi's next club.
We have seen Messi make a u-turn with Barca before, so don't rule it out again.
Manchester City
Having just splashed out £100 million on England star Jack Grealish, can Man City pay Messi's astronomical wages and stay within Financial Fair Play regulations?
If City has any hopes of adding Harry Kane to their side, then this deal looks unlikely.
However, if Spurs and Daniel Levy continue to play hardball over the England captain, then Messi could provide a cheaper and more realistic alternative!
Messi could then be the false nine and focal point of the City attack, allowing the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden and Grealish to play around him.
MLS
Could Messi make the trip across the Atlantic and join the MLS?
David Beckham's Inter Miami has been rumoured, while a link with New York City FC could see an agreement struck with Man City too.
If this did happen, we could see some different teams in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team!
Special cards like Blaise Matuidi, Nani, Carlos Vela, and more would see some epic MLS sides created.
Inter Milan
Italian champions Inter Milan are in a bit of financial trouble, so a huge deal for Messi seems a long way off.
Inter has already sold Achraf Hakimi for around £50 million, and Romelu Lukaku may also be on the move for a fee closer to £100 million.
If that transfer goes through it could free up the funds for a move for Messi.
Joining Inter could see Messi partner Argentine teammate Lautaro Martinez up front, a frightening prospect for Serie A and Champions League defences alike.
